Breakfast Nook Fall Tablescape 2019

I decided to srart on my fall decorating. This years decor is a lot of DIY. I made three new wreaths for the porch which I will share in an upcoming post. I also did a LOT of painting.

I have been slowly transforming our new home. I guess we can still call it new? It will be two years come the end of October since we moved in. I still do not have one room completely done. I have always been one that lets each space evolve over time.

Master Bathroom Reveal

Today is the day y'all! 

I am finally sharing our master bathroom makeover. It all began back in February when I started designing the space and thinking of how I wanted it to feel.

I have always dreamed of finding a vintage mantel for our master bedroom. Mr. Front Porch tagged along with me treasure hunting one Saturday and purchased this beauty for me for Christmas. I was so excited! It didn't always look like this though.

Throw Back to My Chalk Painted $1 Pumpkins

Hi everyone! Yeah, I know it has been awhile and honestly I had not planned to be gone so long. Recent events namely Hurricane Harvey added to my extended absence. Two weeks ago at this time we were preparing for Harvey to come ashore at a Cat 4 and NOBODY had any idea what was in store for us. We accumulated approx 50 inches of rain in a matter of a few days causing catastrophic flooding in many areas around Houston and along the Texas/Louisiana coast line. It was like  nothing we had ever experienced and we have been thru several hurricanes over the years. Our hearts broke watching hundreds of thousands of people loose their homes and towns decimated. 

My family well we were spared. Neighborhoods just a few miles from us were not so lucky. It still brings tears to my eyes and honestly I am still having dreams about it all. Watching those in Florida trying to evacuate from Irma keeps the feelings fresh from Harvey. I pray and will continue to pray for Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and any other states in Irma's path. My biggest piece of advice is to remember that everyone is going thru it together! Show love, compassion and kindness and be sure to be patient! One thing I continuously saw from Harvey's destruction around my great city is God's love. Neighbor helping neighbor, stranger helping stranger. If Harvey has taught us anything it is that God's love is still very strong!

This week we have fabulous fall like temperatures! It has part of me wanting to bring out the fall decor. At the same time part of me feels guilty that I am able to still decorate. Then there is a part of me that knows others enjoy seeing what I come up with and know it brings a little joy their way.  Over the past few days I have started putting out a few pieces indoors that I purchased over the last month. Till I decide exactly what I am going to do I thought that I would throw it back to a project from a few years ago. Back in 2014 I had some fun painting pumpkins.

Hallway, Clock, & Light Makeover

I interrupt the continuous garage of holiday decorating with a project I completed over the weekend. It was something that I wanted to get done before decorating the breakfast nook for the holidays.

We have been fighting a bad chest cold around here this past week. It hit me pretty hard and I was down for most of the week. By the time Saturday came I was ready to DO something even though I was still not 100%. 

Out with the Can Light & In With the French Farmhouse Light

This is the hallway between our kitchen and our dining room. I have slowly been updating it. Three years ago I added the wood toppers to all the doors for some rustic farmhouse charm. Earlier this year I painted our command central door Rainwashed by Sherwin Williams and then painted the insets of the doors. All super easy things I was able to do on my own. The one thing I desperately wanted to do though required some outside help. I wanted to get rid of the one single can light.

You want me to let you in on a secret? Up until this past week I still had some of our Christmas decorations out in the kitchen. I mean really, can you even imagine?!;) Thankfully I went out running errands and saw all the Spring decor being put out and I was inspired to change things up.

Fixer Upper Sign = Gallery Wall Update

I shared with y'all a few days ago how I purchased this steel sign from The Magnolia Market after seeing it on Fixer Upper. I was super excited to receive it and to get it displayed but once it came in I was stumped. I knew it was more of an industrial piece and I ended up with one that looked more new rather than those that have a patina. It is hit or miss exactly what finish you will receive since each one is individually crafted.

DIY Faux Brick Wall Tutorial Using Chalk Paint

As promised I am going to try and explain how I achieved our faux brick wall finish. We started with two faux brick panels from Lowes. You can read about their install in my  DIY Faux Brick Wall Part 1 post.

Painting Fabric with Chalk Paint- Now A Believer!

For the past few years I have seen and heard about painting fabric with Chalk Paint. I was a non believer if there was ever one! I did not think it would turn out well at all! I pictured it cracking and just so stiff you would not even want to sit on it. It was just not a project I thought I would have ever tackled. 

Updated Fireplace Mirror

Around the holidays I received a gift card to Kirklands so after the craziness was over I went shopping! What I needed most was a new mirror for above our fireplace.

I browsed online before heading to the store and found the Victoria Mirror and fell in love. I knew it would be just perfect for above the fireplace. It was even more beautiful in person! It almost came home with me till...

I went over by the Clearance section and found this mirror. It was normally $149.99 and I got it for just $29.99. How could I resist!? At that point I decided to spend my gift card on something entirely different which I will share in an upcoming post.

The mirror was marked down due to being damaged but I knew I could make it beautiful once again. 

The finish was chipping off something awful but for me that was a major plus. I busted out my chalk based paints and got busy making it over. I made sure to chip off all the loose pieces of finish before painting it.

All that chippiness worked in my favor!

Now this mirror has a time worn finish and fits right in with our home.

I think it turned out just perfect!

Not bad for $29.99 and a little sweat equity.

Living Room Changes = A Few Reveals

I have been busy working on the living room make over and of course that means there are a lot of mini makeovers.

The first being this area by the fireplace. I have always loved this little vintage dresser that The Nana found for me back when The Hubster and I bought our first home. It has sat in this exact same spot for four years now and I was ready to find it a new home.

In came this beat up water damaged secretary that only a gal like myself could love. If you missed my post on what it looked like before you can click here. 

Now this space by the fireplace is lighter and brighter. I used Old White and Old Ochre for this piece. I debated on doing a different color but after playing around with it I decided to stay neutral with the piece since it is right by our fauxed fireplace which I love and will not be painting. If I used another color I feel the fireplace and the secretary would have been competing for attention. I just wanted them to co-mingle!;)

 Of course I had to distress the secretary in areas to give it that time worn feel.

The drawers which were in horrible shape came out surprisingly well I think. I was able to get most of the bubbles out of the veneer. The rest we will just say adds character!;)

I left the inside of the desk in its original glory. I always like to try and save some part of the original piece if at all possible. That and I wanted to tie the wood into the rest of the living room.

Pictures of the boys great grandmas! That is my Nanny holding my mama. The other picture is The Hubster's Grandma Lillian on the left. Sure do miss these ladies!

At the beginning of this year I had shared with y'all my frenchy chandy and sconces score from the local yard sale site. The chandy went up in the dining room back in February but it has taken till now for me to decide where to put the sconces. 

Since I was not able to hard wire them where I originally wanted them I asked The Papa to help me make them plug ins. It was a fairly simple project and only cost about $10 for the supplies.

Now one of the sconces hangs by the fireplace. We changed the light bulbs out to night lite light bulbs because other bulbs were glaringly bright. This way they look more like candles.

Next up I just need to finish accessorizing the living room and I will be ready to share its full reveal.

Half Bath Changes

The other day I was in the half bath and I just so happened to look up.

When I looked up this is what I saw. Can you see it? It is a shadow around the air vent! At first I started freaking thinking maybe the ceiling was damp from a leak  somewhere but after climbing up on the ladder I found out it was just that the ceiling was faded.

I knew that the shadow would bug me each and every time I went in there so I decided to paint the ceiling. First I tried Duck Egg and though I love the color it made the bathroom really dark. The entire reason the half bath got a semi remodel this past winter was because I was tired of how dark it was in the space seeing as there is no natural light.

After a few more attempts at mixing some blues and some grays and Littliest popping in every now and then telling me he preferred the white ceiling I finally mixed up a grey I liked. 

Unless you look at the before pic where you can still see some of the white showing on the ceiling before I cut it in you probably would not even notice that the ceiling is gray. I notice though and that is all that really matters!;)

After I painted the ceiling I decided to change things up on the shelves.

I brought in my vintage blue seltzer bottle that I purchased a few months back at The Houston Urban Market. I have always admired vintage seltzer bottles so I was super excited to finally find one of my own.

The cows were bumped up to the top shelf as well as the little clock from The Hubster's grandmother.

I brought in a few treasures that my friend Brenda gave to me. 

I had been trying to find the perfect spot for the wood bead rosary. 

I purchased this small boxwood wreath from Holly Mathis at The Houston Urban Market as well. I was thinking of getting two and had two in my hands but at the last minute put it back. I could have kicked myself when I got home and had the perfect spot for two. Oh well, till I find another one it looks perfect right here. 

It is always so funny how one change leads to another and another and another.
