DIY Christmas Tree Stand

I am always asked how I get our Christmas trees to stand up in alternative containers. Ever since we stopped buying real trees and swapped over to faux I have come up with creative stands. Each one was created a bit differently. Some were successful and well lets say one year Mr. Front Porch and I watched in horror while the tree started to topple over. It was a good thing we were there and I was able to catch it. After that year our skills have advanced and we have never had an issue again. So if you try your hand at creating an alternative stand just be sure that it is sturdy enough to hold the tree up to prevent any accidents! Probably best not to try if you have small children or pets unless you are 100% sure your stand is sturdy!

Cottage Farmhouse Christmas Trees 2019

Have any of you started to put your Christmas decor away yet? Sometimes I start the day after and sometimes I wait till mid January. This year I started putting away a few things here and there. The first thing I did was to take apart one of the trees.

Christmas Inspiration

Well I tell ya Mother Nature has graced us with some beyond beautiful fall weather. Last night we sat outside enjoying Christmas movies on Hallmark and making S'mores over the fire pit. This morning we woke up to it being 40. I can not remember it ever being this cold out in October since we have moved to Texas and I am loving it! Wish it would stick around. Today marks 1 year since we closed on the new house. I can NOT believe how fast time is flying by!!

Speaking of fall I finished up the last of the fall decorating this past week. I shared our fall dining room here  and our fall porch here I shared a little while back so if you missed them be sure to click on over.

Yesterday I went on the hunt across town for a mirror for our master bathroom. I ended up at three different stores though I only needed to go to one. I couldn't resist stopping at them all. I found some wonderful Christmas decor I thought that I would share with y'all.

Our Farmhouse Christmas Tree 2015- The Keeping It Real Edition

First off let me say Happy New Year everyone! I hope that this New year brings only joy and happiness to all. Thank you to each and every one of you who follow along with me and my crazy self.

In the world of blogging it seems you must start your Christmas decorating at the begging of October. I could not bring myself to start until November 1st and I thought I was ahead of the game for once. Ha! The joke was on me. I was getting wrapped up in making everything look just perfect and kept tweaking things till it came down to the wire and I had a choice to make- become a total wild and crazy woman taking pics of the rest of our holiday decor or just sit back, relax, and enjoy things just how they were with my family.

Let's Talk Christmas Trees- Our Christmas Tree Thru the Years

Christmas Tree Inspiration-From My Front Porch To Yours
If you could see my house right now you would think a bomb went off. Between Fall still in the dining room and all the Christmas bins that are stacked around it is quite a site in here. I will be sharing our Thanksgiving dining room on Friday but till then I thought that I would share what I am up to right now.
Our Christmas tree last year decided to start giving me fits a few days before the jolly man himself was to visit. I attempted to cut all the lights off after Christmas but it was too daunting of a task so the tree ended up at the curb.

Christmas Tree Reveal 2013

Welcome to the first of my holiday reveals! I am excited to be sharing with you all our Christmas tree for 2013! It is completely different from years past. First being we have a faux tree this year from Wayfair. If you missed my review of it you can click here.
Christmas Tree
I decided to use gold, white, and silver for our tree instead of the traditional red, white and green I have done for so many years. I have to say I am in love with the change!

Our capiz shell star that I purchased last year paired with a simple burlap ribbon topper.

I found some really beautiful glitter script ornaments like this bird at Cracker Barrel.
When I saw this beaded garland  at Lowes I knew it would be perfect.
The Dollar Tree had some wonderful ornaments this year like this glitter deer with jingle bells. Two for a dollar, who can beat that!?

Still in love with our embellished galvanized tub we sat our tree in. You can click here to see how I made this.
Everything looks quite magical at night and ready for Santa Claus to visit.
Thank you for visiting! Next up I will be sharing our Christmas kitchen and breakfast nook so be sure to stop back by this week.
P.s. Don't forget today is the last day to enter to win the glitter ice skates from The Magic Brush!

Treasure Hunt Thursday #83 Most Viewed Links

Hey everybody! I am still in full decorating mode which loosely translates to my house is still a mess. I hope to be done soon so I can share some more with y'all. I am just going a tad slower this year. The Hubster says it is because I am "thinking" too much about what to do instead of just "doing". I agree so now I am just doing!;)

Anyways, here are the top most viewed links from last weeks Treasure Hunt Thursday.
The Rusty Hearts came in first place sharing their fabulous Dollar Tree project creating JOY frames.

Next up was Pricillas who shared with us some of their fabulous trees. This one looks HUGE!

Debbie-Dabble came in third with her fabulous outdoor holiday decor.

See y'all back here tomorrow for Treasure Hunt Thursday #84! Hope everybody's week is going well. Hard to believe Christmas is only three weeks out!:0

Christmas Tree 2011

Welcome! So glad you stopped by! I have FINALLY finished up all of the holiday decorating around here which is a huge relief! Today I am going to share our tree.

Let me tell ya this here tree has given me fits this year. We purchased it about a week ago and it took almost an hour and half for me to decide on it. There were so many trees that were already loosing a TON of needles. They looked okay on the outside but when ya looked in the middle they were bare. I thought I had found the perfect tree.
Well it is perfect but sadly enough even though they trimmed her bottom she refuses to drink!! I am highly disappointed. All of our trees have always continued drinking right up until a few days before Christmas. This one I am afraid will be a crispy critter by the time we even get to Christmas Eve!:(
After being frustrated over that I was getting irritated over the ribbon. I could not get it to look right and thus at midnight one night I took it all down. A few days later  I decided why not make it cascade down the tree instead. I guess it will do for this year but don't be surprised if it gets a make over once my Jute arrives in the mail!;) It still just does not feel quite right.
Our star is the start we have had since we were married. I hate that it will not stay straight but at the same time it has sentimental value. Maybe one day I will figure out how to get it to stay on the right way. Till then we enjoy its corkiness. I placed several different picks all around the top of the tree to frame out the star and then started the rows of ribbon from there.

Here is our tree at night! Believe it or not she has 7 less strands of lights than usually! We use the standard white then I add in some twinkling white and then several strands of red, white, and green. I really wanted to put ALL of them on but they were getting too heavy for this tree and weighing down the branches.

So there ya have our Christmas Tree for 2011!
Hope your weekend is going well!

Oh Christmas Tree....

Whew! It has been a busy busy week here. It seems it is just one thing after another but that is just par for this time of year. I am still working on the tree area but thought that I would go ahead and share it.

All of these pics were taken on differ days! Ha! This one from today. Yes, I know my star is crooked. It is crooked every year and never stays straight but it is the star we have had since we were first married thus it stays!:) Yes, I now see I have a major ribbon hole that needs adjusting. Funny what ya notice when ya take a pic. I am needing to go to a differ WM to find a 'N' glitter initial for The Nana's stocking. Once I find that both stockings will be set. Yes, there are lots of presents under our tree already. That is thanx to my mom who we lovingly refer to as Ma. They are driving the boys nutso!:)

I have pretty much used the same decorations for years minus a few. The only thing I have changed up really is the ribbon and more lights. Lots more lights! Our light theme is white twinkling and then red white and green. I think there is a total of ten strands on there!:)

Our topper is a work in progress. I need more picks but I am guessing by the time we get to HobLob they will be all out. That poor star. It's light even went out so I had to wrap a new strand around and thru it. Maybe I will find a replacement in the next few years.

And here the tree is at 12:30 am last Saturday night! Ha! I even let Oldest stay up and help me decorate it which was a big feat for me. I am very particular on where ornaments go and well I kinda had to give that up this year. He was sooooo excited to help for the first time ever!:) That and the fact that he got to stay up till after midnight!:)

On a differ non holiday related note look what made me HomeGoods Happy!! Our large pillows I purchased last year when we moved in where literally falling apart. Stuffing everywhere. I had been trying to find some replacements for months now and then last weekend the boys and I were in HG and I fell in love! I almost did not get them because they were $30 a piece but I knew I had seen them or very similar ones in Ballard for $65 so that made me feel better. The flowered pillows will be recovered eventually.
So there ya have it. Not sure how much more I will have to share of holiday. Maybe the dining room if I ever finish it. Two weeks and counting! Ekkk. It is all going by sooo quickly. Have wonderful weekend y'all and thanx for stopping by!
