New Additions to the Living Room

Changes in one space more often than not require changes to another space so you can always find me working on multiple spaces in our home at a time. Our living room is one of those spaces.

French Country Farmhouse Fireplace Vignette

Over the weekend I worked some more on the master bathroom. We installed the cabinet hardware and I replaced the linen closet door knobs. I will be sharing the changes in my next post.

Today I took a break from the bathroom makeover and I updated our fireplace mantel. The last time I swapped things around was back in January. It was time for a change.

DIY Living Room Wood Beams

I thought that I would kick this week off with a reveal, one that I know a lot of you have been patiently waiting for. It has been about two months since Mr. Front Porch and I tackled our DIY Wood Beam project for the living room.

The project took us approximately 2 weeks to complete. We mainly worked on it during the weekend.

French Country Mantel

We have had spring like weather the past two weekends so I opted out of finishing touch ups of the beams to spend time with my men. I hope that you will continue to be patient on the reveal. You will get a feel for them in this post though!

Shopping Fixer Upper

Do you watch Fixer Upper on HGTV every Tuesday like I do? It is a family affair in this household. We have yet to miss an episode since they started airing last fall. Joanna always picks out the best pieces to add to the homes that her and Chip breathe new life into. You can find Joanna shopping local antique shops in Waco as well as everybody's favorite HomeGoods. I have even spied some home decor from Target and Pier One on a few of these episodes. What makes the homes even more special are the custom pieces she creates for each one.
Season 2 kicked off with "The Little House On The Prairie" remodel. She had a sign made for the couples bathroom. A sign that held a special meaning for Mr. Front Porch and I.  "Grow Old With Me" was our song at our wedding and I told Mr. Front Porch how I so wished Joanna sold that sign in her online shop. Right after I said that I decided to go online during a commercial break and see. Sure enough it was listed for sale! You can only imagine my delight and how quickly I hit the purchase button.

DIY Wood Beams - Update

It has been a little over a week since I shared our plans of creating our own wood beams. Since then A LOT has taken place and I thought I would share a few pics of the process so far.
We had a plan on how we wanted to do the beams as far as how many and what not but of course like all of our projects after we purchased exactly what we needed, we headed back to the store....well Mr. Front Porch headed back to the store to return and purchase what we needed for our revised plans.

If you follow along with me on Facebook or Instagram I have been sharing our wood beam adventure as we go along. Here I am after staining and burning I forget just how many wood boards. I was just thankful that it was unseasonably warm that day and I was able to get them all completed.

French Farmhouse Living Room Reveal

French Farmhouse Living Room-French Country-From My Front Porch To Yours
As promised I am ready to do a reveal. No, not the kitchen but I promise it is coming very soon. Today I am going to show y'all our living room transformation. If you follow me on FaceBook you know what a time I had taking pictures of the space. I had over 400 pics downloaded and the computer ate every last one of them and erased them from my camera so I had to hurry and take pics all over again before I lost my light. I guess that is how it goes in the life of a blogger!;)

This is what our living room transformed into over the last four years. We started with builder grade everything to include carpet. The walls were the first thing I changed after we moved in. They were Sherwin Williams Whole Wheat. It is a lovely color but it made the space very dark and I was ready to lighten and brighten.

Living Room Update

Not too long ago I shared my living room inspiration board with y'all. I showed it to The Hubster as well and after that things were set in motion.
Our old couch made its way upstairs to the game room.
The new couch arrived! I was so happy that I was able to find it locally and at a price we were willing to pay.
I ordered the new rug from Overstock. I can not tell y'all how much I love Overstock.com!
I even ordered our new coffee table from them!
Then a trip to HomeGoods led to me bringing this chair home. It is not a cushy chair but to me it is quite comfortable. I love the high back and the price could not be beat!
With new furniture in place I decided I HAD to finally decide on a new color for our walls.  If you look real close you can see where I was touching up after I painted last time around and well the paint did not match! I can not believe I lived with that for almost four years.
After painting six different sample colors on the living room wall my color was finally decided on when I toured this beautiful model home. As soon as I walked in there I knew it was the color I had been looking for!
A trip to Lowes and the painting began. I will share the brand of paint and color in my reveal post.
Since the walls are painted that meant I could finally bring in a treasure that I found a few months back that was waiting patiently out in the garage. Ok, I did not bring it in, The Hubster and The Papa did!;)
It needs quite a bit of love to be beautiful again.
I am busy trying to finish it up and then I can take pics of the living room for y'all! And yes in the meantime I am finishing up accessorizing the kitchen for its big reveal as well!:) I promise that reveal really is coming soon!

The Living Room

I have been day dreaming of new furniture for our living room for several years now. If you notice I do not share many pictures of our living room very often. I just have not been able to pull things together in this space how I want them.

This pic is two years old. We purchased the couch and yellow chair from StoreHouse back when we built our first house 11 years ago. There is actually another chair we bought to go with it but it has since been retired to the boys play room. It has been a wonderful set but all have seen better days even two years ago.

I am so glad that we had the foresight to go with a slip covered couch back then. Two cats, two boys, and a puppy later all of our furniture is tired/stained/holey. I honestly am embarrassed by how dirty they look no matter how much I try to clean them. I attempted to buy the Ektorp slip cover from Ikea last year for the couch but it was too small. I was lucky enough to find a ruffled slip cover from UglySofa.com for the yellow chair though. They had one for the couch too but honestly after all the trouble it was to keep the one on the chair I did not even bother with the one for the couch. They are pretty and the exact look I was wanting but I prefer fitted slip covers. The constant tucking is just not for me.

Last weekend while surfing the world wide web I came across this sofa by FlexSteel. I fell instantly in love with it but could not find anybody who sold it online to even see how much it cost. I took to my blog FaceBook page and sent out an SOS. Thankfully a sweet reader who works for a furniture store told me how much it went for at her shop. The gears in my head started turning even more thinking I could surely talk The Hubster into it. The next challenge though was not talking The Hubster into the sofa but to actually find it locally so we could sit on it and make sure it really was what we wanted.
While web surfing I found this indoor outdoor rug on O.co. I love using indoor outdoor rugs in our home. They are such easy upkeep and last forever with the high traffic of the boys and pets.
Wanting a new couch led me to searching for a new coffee table as well!;) Our coffee table has seen better days too with scratches, missing screws, and gnawed off corners from one puppy.
Then that led to finding fabrics for pillows even possible curtains. I love this print by Waverly!
It is called Spring Bling and comes in a vintage color scheme as well.
I am using the Ikea Alvine Spits fabric for valances in our breakfast room that I am currently working on so I figured I will try and work the sheers into the living room as well.
I have an entire bolt of this buffalo check fabric from Ikea. I am thinking  maybe curtains. Not sure though cause I am really loving the antiqued Waverly floral fabric.

If I forgo the floral Waverly fabric I could easily see this chair from PierOne in our living room! I adore it but do have reservations about how well it will hold up with the boys. The last Pier One chair I looked at had very thin fabric on it. I wish they had curtains in this print. I would buy those in a heart beat!
I had fun making a few idea boards for the first time. I am so behind on the times when it comes to idea boards!;) I am really loving this board and am thinking maybe I can pull it off. I need to choose a new paint color for the living room too. Many things need to come together but with our 12 year anniversary coming up and some rainy day money I think some changes may be coming soon to our living room!;)
Before I go I wanted to thank Somerset Home// Stampington!
They so graciously featured my frenchy ottoman that I made at "Make Your Own Ottoman Class" back in the spring at Metamorphosis Studios. It is a true honor to be a part of this beautiful issue! I highly suggest it as a must buy.
Other wonderful bloggers like Jennifer Rizzo, Junk Chic Cottage, Buckets Of Burlap, and Cedar Hill Ranch are all in it as well!

Thank you for stopping by today! I hope your Monday is a good one.
