All in an afternoon.
We have had this piece since the beginning of the year. |
Reason why I HATE my mouse sander. Ended up hand sanding most of that out. |
Popped open my Duck Egg chalk paint. I LOVE me some duck egg! I orginally wanted my base color to be Chateau Grey but I really think my can is bad so I held off on using any of it. |
Top re stained and one coat of duck egg. I would have loved to have just finished this piece with duck egg but it would not have gone right in the room this is for. |
So on top went Old White. I will be honest and say it took two coats. Not sure how anybody can get good coverage with just one coat unless maybe they use a sprayer. |
If you are going to use a light wax and a dark wax with the chalk paint be sure to NOT put the dark wax on first or you will not be able to get it off. Make sure the area you are working on is fully covered in the clear wax first! If not you may end up having to repaint that area.
I am hoping to be able to find new pulls sometime soon. I may just spray these with some ORB. Not sure yet. |
Hope your weekend was a great one!
Untouchables
Don't forget to stop on by my Appreciation Party ladies! You have till August 1 to think of any question you would like to ask Annie Sloan either about herself as a designer or her ever so popular chalk paint. Just click here!:)
Kathy over at Creative Home Expressions recently shared what pieces of furniture in her home are off limits to painting. She then wanted to know what pieces were off limits in our homes. Here are my untouchables.
This is a piece that The Nana bought for us back when we moved into our first home. I have always loved vintage pieces and this was my very piece. |
I purchased this french country bench right after we moved into our current home. I just love it and I do not foresee ever painting it unless it gets beat up from wear and tear from two little boys. |
This is our kitchen island that I transformed awhile back. It took quite a few months but so worth it to me. I just love this piece to pieces and it would seriously pain me to ever have to change it! You can see its transformation here. |

For Sale
Well I did it, I listed a few of my furniture pieces on the local yard sale site this past Thursday. I was a bit nervous to say the least. Every morning since then I would repost in hopes of getting a message that somebody was interested.
Of course I also listed my lil' frenchy side table. Still waiting on some bites on this one. I may drop the price a tad in the next few days maybe. |
Littliest and I picked this table up last week. |
We came home and got started right away on it. Littliest was adamant that he was going to get the groody plastic things off the bottom of the legs for me. |
One very determined little boy he is! Needless to say he ended up riding his bike while I popped them off. |

All Because Of A Tablecloth!
WARNING: You may need to wear your shades to view the following pictures!:)
You may be thinking oh my how scary and to tell you truth I was thinking the exact same thing when I opened this up. I could not believe I was actually going to be using this color. |
Doubt still lingered but I charged on with the faith that all would end well. |
Decided that was just too much Sherwin Williams Nervy Hue 6917 so I added some SW Vanillin to the middle of the doors. I also used Vanillin as the base coat. |
The hard part begins. I always hand sand everything even though I own a palm sander. The palm sander always clogs up and leave marks I can never get out. |
After some distressing I added some stain to tone down the Nervy Hue and also to add some more aging to the piece. |
I love how the top turned out. |
Aren't these the coolest knobs ever!? |
Here let's get a closer look. They are from HobLob and a whopping $7.99 a piece but this week half off so in my cart they jumped! In this pic you can see the true color of the cabinet. |
And just in case you are wondering why on earth I chose Nervy Hue here is the pic of my inspiration. I hit the color pretty dead on to the April Cornell tablecloth turned curtains in my sewing/craft room. That was a HUGE relief!! Now all I need to do is let it finish drying so I can take it back up stairs and put the cream hutch back on top. If ya wanna see the curtains you can go here. Hope your week is going well!
