All Because of a Rug: Transformed Landing

This is our landing heading up stairs. It has always just been kinda there with no  real direction.

It has sat this way minus the fall decor for ever but I just never could think of what to do with it. That all just changed!

Won't you come up stairs with me and see the recent transformation of our stair landing?

Off to left you will see this saying that I ended up having to hand paint on the wall after we moved in. It was a stencil but the stencil was not sticking with all the texture we have on our walls. It is a lil' crooked but shhh, don't tell anybody!;)

To the right I have an adorable lil' nest. This has actually been there awhile and I am quite surprised that the boys or our furry children have not hauled off with it yet.

It is hard to get a good pic with all the light streaming in from the window so lets go all the way up stairs shall we.

This rug is what started the whole transformation. I found it at Garden Ridge last Friday. I was thinking it would make a great foyer rug but it ended up here instead. For just $25 I think it was a steal.

The curtain panels I made from my Old Time Pottery fabric, some fab I already had and the original valance that was hanging on the landing window. They could stand to be a tad wider but I did not have enough fabric to make full panels and I think full panels would have been too much for such a small space. I finished the panels up at midnight last night and well I HAD to hang um so out came my 99 cent decorative upholstery tacks from HobLob. They will do for now until I decided whether or not I want a rod or not.

I took the chair down that had been up here for ever and brought up this cute lil' table that normally sits in the foyer by our front door.

I love this lil' candelabra! I have had it since November but just could not find the perfect spot for it.

I also finally found the perfect spot for this cute wire frame  I bought back in March when my mom and I went shopping at Old Town Spring. Speaking of which this is a pic of my mom when she was a lil' girl and her Aunt Ruth. They both have the same name!:) (Correction-That is my moms Aunt B in the pic with her and not her Aunt Ruth.)

My HomeGoods bust and a pretty floral arrangement from Kirklands accents the bottom of the table.

And here is the revamped frame display! I just love this to pieces. I purchased the Bless Our Family mirror for just $4 at HobLob last week.

All Because Of A Tablecloth!

This is what I have been working in the past few days as well as other projects. The cabinet we have owned for 9 years now and it use to sit in our foyer. It came from Ikea. I always wanted to do something to it but never did. I was  too chicken and when we moved it ended up in my sewing room for fabric storage. If you remember from a previous post I was hard headed and moved it on my own with a hutch on top and busted the leg off the back. The Papa is in town and so the cabinet came downstairs to get repaired and so it HAD to be painted while it was down here.

You may be thinking oh my how scary and to tell you truth I was thinking the exact same thing when I opened this up. I could not believe I was actually going to be using this color.

Doubt still lingered but I charged on with the faith that all would end well.

Decided that was just too much Sherwin Williams Nervy Hue 6917 so I added some SW Vanillin to the middle of the doors. I also used Vanillin as the base coat.

The hard part begins. I always hand sand everything even though I own a palm sander. The palm sander always clogs up and leave marks I can never get out.

After some distressing I added some stain to tone down the Nervy Hue and also to add some more aging to the piece. 

The neighbors all think I am crazy I am sure since I carried this piece out of the garage by myself with camera in tow to take pics. The sun actually makes the color off but further down you can see the true color.

I love how the top turned out.

Here let's get a closer look. They are from HobLob and a whopping $7.99 a piece but this week half off so in my cart they jumped! In this pic you can see the true color of the cabinet.

And just in case you are wondering why on earth I chose Nervy Hue here is the pic of my inspiration. I hit the color pretty dead on to the April Cornell tablecloth turned curtains in my sewing/craft room. That was a HUGE relief!! Now all I need to do is let it finish drying so I can take it back up stairs and put the cream hutch back on top. If ya wanna see the curtains you can go here.

A Rough Reveal

Okay so I shared this pic earlier in the morning of a beautiful April Cornell tablecloth that I found at HomeGoods this week. I knew I HAD to have it for my sewing/craft room!

Before any gasps, I did say this is a ROUGH reveal. My mom cave is not even close to being blog worthy yet but I wanted to share what I made with the table cloth. Ignore the pink sample paint. It is a little flamingo and I need to find a softer shade.

Tada! Here are the finished panels I made from the table cloth which I might add I actually made in a day and a half and not two, three months later! Ha! I actually purchased four table cloths. Two sets in two differ sizes since I was not sure how long I needed the curtains to be and not sure if I wanted to spend the money on two full table cloths or not to create fuller panels. Well sensibility won out and I decided to use just one table cloth and cut it in half to make two panels and sewed the sides back up. Yes, I would have loved two fuller panels but I just could not justify to myself spending $50 on curtains for in here.

I went to HobLob yesterday looking for some type of hanger and came home with this. The Fleur de leis curtain clips were on clearance and they only had one pack but it worked fine for me. The hanger actually matches the chandy I purchased a while back for in here but have yet to decided what to do with. Now once the walls are painted pink the clips may go white as well or the hanger may actually get painted to match the clips. Not sure and the important thing to me was to just get the panels made and hung. 

This print really does makes me just smile every time I go in here. They distract your eye from all my messes going on!;) I loved this table cloth even more because it has a boarder to it and the border is actually sewn on all around and not just printed so it adds a little bit more something special to it.

And here is my assistant who is addicted to open windows. I was actually taking a pic to show ya how the panels puddle on the floor. Oh and as an extra there in the corner on the floor is that chandy just patiently waiting.

Crazy???

Okay ya'll I have been busy working on a project today that I am just soo thrilled about and I wanted to share it and see if I am just totally crazy or not!Ha!

Two weeks ago on the local yard sale site I found a pair of Country Curtains black and white toile curtains in 84 length. I have always loved toile and since I knew how much they were, $100 new with shipping, they came home with me for a mere $30! I had no idea what I was going to do with them but I HAD to have them.

At the same time of my thrifty purchase I had decided to pull out a cafe curtain project that The Nana and I had started back in um well Oct of last year. I figured it was time to finish a set and see if I was really going to like them. They were Ballard inspired. Finished making um and was highly disappointed. They were the exact same color as our kitchen walls and it was just not what I was looking for. Sorry Nana!:(

From time to time the toile curtains kept popping into my brain saying hey bring me downstairs and see if we will do. Well Sunday evening at well um 11:30 p.m. I finally decided to listen to my brain. I ran upstairs and brought um down. I hung um up and then used some scrape material I was suppose to be making a tie back with for the back door and made a faux tie back for the curtain.

After I hung them I was ready to smack myself for waiting this long to go along with my thought because they could possibly work in this space. I loved the post over at Beyond The Screen Door about how she mixed fabrics that "at first glance you would not think of putting together". I hope Sonya does not mind me quoting her anyways, I love her bathroom treatments and figured hey my breakfast room curtains could be just as beautiful! I mean shoot its been over a year now since we moved in and those windows were still naked. It was worth a shot.

So here are the two 84 inch long curtain panels. I was so thrilled with them I had to bring in the bench from the dining room to see what it would look like if I so happened to get the itchin' to paint our kitchen chairs.

Another pic where you can see my faux valance with it. I debated and debated over these because well I shared the pics with a good friend and my mom better known to us as Ma and well they hated it. They do not like the combination at all. I was heart broken but appreciated the honest feedback.

Well I decided to throw caution to the wind and said what the hey I love um and will make it work. I measured and measured and measured some more. There was no way I was getting three cafe curtain sets out of two 86' long...yep they were actually 2 inches longer than they were suppose to be...and so I ordered 6.5 yards of a black and white toile from Fabric.com. I was keeping my fingers crossed it would work. The fab came and I started on making a panel right away. I was soooo disappointed. Like so disappointed I was wanting to cry. I know really!! Curtains are not a reason to be tearing up ya'll but I was. I WANTED my cafe curtains to be that Country Curtains toile. I HAD to have my cafe curtains be that toile. So I hunted high and low on the net. Went on Ebay and nothing. Posted a listing on the local yard sale site hoping just maybe somebody out there had a panel to spare. Nope but what did pop into my head was the fact that I had an old Country Curtains catalog because on the front of it were curtains made from the fabric I had chosen for our living room before the catalog even came in the mail and I was excited so I kept it. Well in it were the toile curtains! I quickly emailed CC and asked them if there was ANY chance on earth they would have in any of their stores those toile curtains. After several emails it did not look too good. Then later this afternoon CC emailed me and said they had found 4 yards of raw fabric in that print and that they would sell it to me and only charge me for two yards!!!

I took that as a sign ya'll! It was ment to be so at 9:00 p.m. this evening I took the plunge and made my first cut on those beautiful panels and two hours later they turned into by the grace of God cafe curtains!! I have never made curtains without The Nana being around....well actually she makes them for me and I supervise kinda like princess kitty Sophia supervises me....and was tickled pink that they actually came out perfect!

Sorry for the bad phone pic but I was not waiting to download pics again from the camera. So now that I have um made and took the leap of faith what do ya'll think??? Love um hate um? Can you see my vision or like I said am I just crazy??? Remember I am going for a french country cottagey feel in our home. I am going to eventually redo the valance and make the fabric into actual panels instead of just mistreated. I will also this weekend be making the tie backs in the red fabric with polka dots.

Here is another project I started on this week to spruce up the kitchen. I have to wait till next week when hopefully there will be a 40% off coupon. Every time I just have to have something it is always the week they do not offer one! The boys and I went and purchased the top trim since it was just over a $1 a yard but the bottom trim is gulp $6.99 a yard. Yep, a coupon is needed. Those were just scraps I had left over from another project. I think they will look nice once it is all done.

Off to bed. We have brunch at Chuckee Cheese in the a.m.! WhoHoo! Not really but Oldest and Littliest are highly excited. If ya need us we will be there at 9:30 a.m. hence brunch!HA!

Stormy Afternoon

What are ya'll doing this afternoon? We were going to head out and get our passes so we can utilize the pool for the one week we have left till school starts. That idea has now kinda went out the window since it started storming. Hopefully it will cool off some. Ekkk that was some lightening out there. Thank heavens for surge protectors! HA!

Earlier today we went to WM for some wipes and a new snap tool. That was a wash. Well I did get the wipes and some more spray paint to redo the chandys yet again but no snap tool. I need to go to Joanns or Hob Lob I guess for it which means I need to see if I have a coupon in my email somewhere.

After that we went to HomeGoods which I have I mentioned I LOVE!? It is my new addiction. I went to get a cute little white tea pot and cups to match that would have been all under $10 for display on a future hutch in the dining room. They only had the pot left so I passed seeing as I do not even have a hutch yet. We then wondered around. The boys were pretty well behaved. We ended up getting some napkins and a table cloth in hopes of making kitchen curtains.

Gotta go! It is hailing now.....

Back now and we have since been back to WM and HomeGoods! I needed one more tablecloth which I got when I returned the napkins from today and a tray which I had purchased earlier in the week to make a chalk board. I can find something else for that but there was only one other table cloth left so I knew I had to get it or be out of luck since I already started chopping n the one we bought earlier in the day. We then had to go to WM because the rain brought out more ants. Joy and more Joy! Thankfully the bug guy will be back again tomorrow.

Dinner for my men is calling so I must go. Yum fish sticks. Mama is having a Healthy Choice! Check back ya' ll for the finished product! Also hop on over to Peanut Petunia! The tablecloth and napkins. LOVED the napkins but just could not figure out how to use um.
The kitchen where the tablecloth will hopefully be turned into some lovely cafe style curtains and something for the back door. You can see the rejected rooster valance from Lowes still pinned up there! HA! Plus you can see several color attempts. We are officially going with Sherwin Williams Camelback in the kitchen and then Sherwin Williams Whole Wheat in the rest of the common areas.
