Master Bedroom Design- Fresh Paint

Recently I shared the plans for our master bedroom makeover.

Over this past weekend I spent the day painting. Bye bye Greige that was more brown than gray in our home.

I had decided on Sherwin Williams Pearly White because of it's gray undertone. It has brightened up our bedroom beyond belief! I will say after I finished I did question my selection because it has a yellow hue in our room but then sometimes it does look gray. It is a very weird color. I decided to stick with it though and love how it makes the space feel.

Next up we played around with the placement of our bed. It originally was in front of the windows. Mr. Front Porch did not like that so we placed the bed on the long wall as you walk into our bedroom.

I didn't like how the bed was BAM right in your face as you walk in so on to the short wall it was moved. As you can see we had a supervisor. LOL.

For me to agree to the short wall placement Mr. Front Porch agreed to new skinnier nightstands and to swap sides of the bed with me so I would not be right next to the bathroom. He wakes up before the crack of dawn to get ready for work and I was not feeling like being right by the door. Well that arrangement lasted all of one night. By the time he got home from work the next day I had us swapped back to our rightful sides of the bed. LOL.

I have plans on painting the bed white or a gray color but I could not resist throwing on the new ticking stripe bed skirt and our quilt which we used in our last master bedroom. I was afraid that the quilt was not going to be long enough on the sides since we have a new deeper mattress. Thankfully it worked out!

These photos are all in the process photos so please excuse the keeping it real factor like my laundry being folded on the bed. I brought in some vintage wood shutters to lean up in the windows. Eventually we will bordering shutters to install. The ones we order will go up a little bit higher but we love having the upper portion of the window open. I then pinned the new curtains up because I couldn't wait to see how everything looked together. As for the rug I was not going to lay the it back out till after I paint the bed because I didn't want to have to move it in and out from under the bed again. That was a pain! While I was folding laundry I decided that the rug no longer needed to go under the bed but that it would look nice in front of the bed.

My supervisor agrees that the rug is best in front of the bed. She has found a new happy place to hang out!:)

As for the long wall I have plans for it! This year we are going to have a Christmas tree! I am also hoping that I can find a salvaged fireplace mantel/surround.

I think something like this would be fabulous. If I can not find one we will just build one. I am hoping to have one in the space before I take Christmas pictures. We shall see.

In the meantime I love having my vintage pie safe in here. I have not styled the inside yet but it still makes me smile. I am going to redo the french chair. I just have to make up my mind on what fabric to use.
Next up other than the fireplace mantel is to find curtain rods and to decide on what to do with the tray ceiling. Will the ceiling fan stay or go? Who knows. LOL.

  2. The direction you are going looks perfect. The bed placement seems right to me. I considered getting a mantel for our fireplace wall. You can find them easily in shops but they are high. Look on Craig's List...there are always some on there.

    1. Yes they are always high Stacey so that is why I think we are just going to build one. We have not had any luck on our Craigs List down here. Hope you are enjoying our cold weather!:) Seems every week and half we get two days of winter temps. LOL.

  4. I love everything, your paint color, bedding, area rug...wow, you've nailed it.

We had a problem at the lakehouse with positioning our bed. Not only windows but eaves from the A frame. The best thing we did was place the bed on an angle in a corner. Wow-how it opened everything up! It freed up so much space. Keep playing-you will find what suits you best.

    1. Hi Jane! We finally agreed on the short wall. Not what I originally wanted but now that the furniture is all in there and we have plans to build a faux fireplace I am happy with the placement.
