French Country Farmhouse Thru The Years- Laundry Room & Half Bath

It has been a week and half since we bid farewell to our old home. It seems like it has been so much longer! The boys are now registered at their new schools and we have settled into the rental if you can really call living amongst boxes settled!;) School starts on the 22nd so now all we have to do is wait for the new house to be completed. There has been quite a bit of action in the last week that I shared here, here and here.

Half Bath Changes

The other day I was in the half bath and I just so happened to look up.
When I looked up this is what I saw. Can you see it? It is a shadow around the air vent! At first I started freaking thinking maybe the ceiling was damp from a leak  somewhere but after climbing up on the ladder I found out it was just that the ceiling was faded.
I knew that the shadow would bug me each and every time I went in there so I decided to paint the ceiling. First I tried Duck Egg and though I love the color it made the bathroom really dark. The entire reason the half bath got a semi remodel this past winter was because I was tired of how dark it was in the space seeing as there is no natural light.
After a few more attempts at mixing some blues and some grays and Littliest popping in every now and then telling me he preferred the white ceiling I finally mixed up a grey I liked.
Unless you look at the before pic where you can still see some of the white showing on the ceiling before I cut it in you probably would not even notice that the ceiling is gray. I notice though and that is all that really matters!;)
After I painted the ceiling I decided to change things up on the shelves.
I brought in my vintage blue seltzer bottle that I purchased a few months back at The Houston Urban Market. I have always admired vintage seltzer bottles so I was super excited to finally find one of my own.
The cows were bumped up to the top shelf as well as the little clock from The Hubster's grandmother.
I brought in a few treasures that my friend Brenda gave to me.
I had been trying to find the perfect spot for the wood bead rosary.

I purchased this small boxwood wreath from Holly Mathis at The Houston Urban Market as well. I was thinking of getting two and had two in my hands but at the last minute put it back. I could have kicked myself when I got home and had the perfect spot for two. Oh well, till I find another one it looks perfect right here.

It is always so funny how one change leads to another and another and another.

Half Bathroom

So what have y'all been up to lately? Me, nothing at all so that left me with nothing to blog about really. I have a thousand ideas running around in my head but I have done zip with them. Not really wanting to spend the money on them right now. I was going thru old pics this evening though and came across our half bath in our last house. I had just started blogging back then and it was on my first blog so I do not think I have shared this redo yet.

I was on a tight tight budget back then but wanted to dress the space up some.

On one of our weekly trips to Target I found this beautiful buffalo plaid curtain panel. It was perfect for the coloring in our house.

So I brought it home along with a few other accessories and got busy making a skirt for the pedestal sink. I used velcro sticky things and a hot glue gun to create box pleats all the way around the sink.

My assistant thought it needed something more so I tacked a piece of ribbon up there and decided I really liked it.

I think my assistant knew what he was talking about!;)

With the extra length from the curtain panel and three placemats I made this window topper. I am not digging my choice of curtain rod but at the time I believe it was all I could find!;) That and the swirls matched the swirls in the rug for in there.

To top the window off I added some upholstery tacs to the bottom of the windowsill. If the new owner did not like them I am sure they had tons of fun trying to pry them out!;)

So there ya have it! A half bath makeover for right about $50 if I remember correctly. Most everything was on sale or clearance. Just the way I like it even today.

Hope your weekend is going well! Now back to deciding what to do with our current half bath.

Last Week

Been busy lately so I thought I would do a quick review of what we have been up to this past week. My mom and step dad came in for a visit. We went down to Galveston to kill some time. Its about an hour drive for us.

This is about as good as Galveston gets. I am NOT a big fan of it at all but glad we went. The boys loved it. There are signs posted everywhere about no swimming. A few years back somebody even contracted a flesh eating bacteria from swimming out there.

This is the oh so beautiful sea wall! Ha! I took this pic so you could see just how windy it was! We were practically blown over and when we got home you can only imagine all the places sand was hiding!:) I don;t know how we chose the windiest and coldest day in March to go but we did.

Instead of heading down the STEEP steps onto the beach my mom made my step dad follow her across the street to the gift shop. If you look closely you can see him standing there waiting on her. I am glad we realized they were gone and found her. She was about to purchase Oldest and Littliest some hermit crabs. Oh no! That was a close one.

This is the reason mom comes out every year! Oldest turned 6 this past week! I can not believe he is six already. Time goes by too quickly and I am so sad my babies are no longer babies. We had a small get together. Invited our good friends over for cake and ice cream. Their oldest is 4 months younger than Oldest and their middle is 10 days younger than Littliest and they have a 13 month old baby girl as well. We skipped the third go round!Ha! The party turned into a pj party which Oldest loved. I have no idea what he was laughing at but love this pic.

I also found time to paint an accent wall in the half bath and redo the accessories. It is REALLY hard to get good pics because it does not have a window and in a hallway away from most natural light but you can get the idea.

My fave Target rug from our previous home. It really should be a smallish circle rug but trying to reuse what I can here. We hang the hand towel on the door otherwise Littliest can not reach it.
My fave bird picture and HobLob $5 picture frame. I am going to add a border with a stencil and some patching mud or whatever it is called. Just have not found the right stencil yet.

Hope your week is going well! Soon I will have pics to post of our in progress landscaping project out front!:)
