Treasures For The Week

Sorry I have not posted anything interesting this past week. My mom came into town to celebrate Oldest's 8th birthday. We had a grand time and did a lot of shopping. I thought you might like to see the treasures I found.
First I have to say that this here little boy and his brother are one of my most prized treasures! They make me soooo very proud! Him and his brother are huge animal lovers and well instead of presents all Oldest wanted for his birthday was money to donate to help dogs in shelters. He said he had enough toys and that it was more important to help those animals who did not have homes yet. Talk about a tear jerker y'all!
Well his Nana & Papa came in a few weeks ago to celebrate his bday early during their Spring Break and they gave him and Littliest some money. They were told they could do whatever they wanted with it and they both opted to donate it with out hesitation so off to PetSmart we went during Adoption Days. Between the two of them they donated  $100!! I was one proud mama! Now mind you Littliest tried to reason with me by saying that it would be better to just bring one of the kitties home with us but he did not win that discussion!;) We already have two furry children. One from the local SPCA and the other who we adopted during Adoption Days at PetSmart years ago. I explained that that was plenty for now.

Now on to shopping with my mama which I LOVED and wish I could do more of. We only see each other twice a year so I enjoy all the time I get to spend with her.

We went to Ellen's Timeless Treasures and I purchased this fabulous tea set for just $20! It needs to be shined up but at $20 I thought it was a steal.

One of my mama's favorite stores to visit is Thad's in Old Town Spring. This visit I found this awesome miniature cement lion. I have always wanted larger ones to sit at our fence entrance like my mama has so when I saw this one and its mate I had to have them.

We also went to The Antique Gallery and I found this darling little mirror for just $5. There were not too many deals to be had this time around there and a lot more booths were vacant then my previous visit. Not sure if it had something to do with everybody getting ready for Round Top or not.

I did find this beyond fabulous miniature federal convex mirror!! I snatched it up without hesitation when I saw it. For just $10 it was a steal. I came home to research it and it goes for over $40 on Ebay. I also researched its copyright date because I was thinking about adding some gold to it. Well turns out it is from 1945 so it will be staying the way that it is.

So there ya have my treasures for the week. Now I just have to figure out where to put them all. Don't forget to come back later this evening for Treasure Hunt Thursday!

The Metamorphosis of a Fireplace & A Score

Okay so I have been in a mediocre mood lately. Our home reno is taking much longer than I would like. I try not to complain because trust me I know how fortunate we are and I know that there are soooo many families out there that have lost there homes in the past month but I would be lying if I said the state of my home does not get to me from time to time. I am kinda at a stand still. I am not able to fluff my nest and it drives me insane. Well it was driving me insane until last night when I decided I had had enough and was going to fluff what I could. I decided even though our reno is not completed I was going to share where we are at this moment and not care that we are not done yet. So come along with me as I share the metamorphosis of our fireplace!

This is how our fireplace and living room looked when we purchased our home almost two years ago.

Threw some paint on the walls and WOW what a difference!

I then decided I wanted to attempt fauxing the fireplace to give it an aged appearance. It was okay but lasted all of an evening before I adjusted it.

Yes, I liked this much better. In fact I LOVED how it turned out. That was in the Spring of 2010.

Here we are April 2011. What were we thinking!!!??? Somehow some way we got it in our heads we were capable of redoing the fireplace and laying down new wood flooring ourselves. We have never done any major home reno projects before. Painting has been the extent of it. Can we really accomplish what I have pictured in my head??

I think thus far it all is turning out very nicely! It is taking soooo much longer than we had hoped due to life and work but that's okay. I am now hoping to be completed by August with all of the flooring. Majorly keeping my fingers crossed.

We not only replaced the granite tiles with ceramic tile that looks like rock but  we also extended it out by about 2 inches all around. I love the border we added.

I need to touch up the inside sides since the new tile does not come out as far as the old tile.
Though it is not done 100% done I am still in love.
And just in case you were wondering just how far we are. This is the reality of our home reno.

Even the dining room is in disarray but I am learning to deal with it. In the end it will all be worth it!

Now on to my major score!! I just ran out and purchased this mirror off the local yard sale site. Can you believe it was only $20!!! Now I am trying to figure out where to put it. Should I put it in the dining room above the buffet and sell the black mirror that is there or should I swap out the mirror above the fireplace and use this one for awhile?? What would you do??

Thanx for stopping by and taking a tour of our home! I hope that your holiday weekend is going well!

Wow Us Wednesday-The Old Oak Cottage

Since my house drives me nuts right now let's go and visit The Old Oak Cottage in Huffman! This is one of my fave lil' shops and we have been here before but it has been awhile so be prepared for MAJOR picture overload y'all!

In the cottage there is some major chandy love going on.

A smaller version of the previous antique chandy. This would be soo pretty in a bathroom I think with blue gray walls and white marble counter tops.

This light fixture I had actually considered bringing home on my last visit to put in our toilet room in the master bath but mom gave me a chandy instead. I am sure it will find a lovely home soon. The ladies actually have two of them.
I love this aqua colored frame.

This cream buffet is making me want to paint mine cream even more. Maybe I will take the plunge here shortly.
Now on to the real reason I just HAD to stop by The Old Oak Cottage. Marci just built this extra space and had their grand opening this past weekend but since I was elbow deep in floor glue I missed it.

Come on in won't you!

Your attention is drawn straight up to this fabulous ceiling! I wish the ceilings in my house were this awesome! I may have to hunt down a ceiling fan like that one.

This space is awesome. Do you see that bench back there? Let's take a closer look.

Did you realize it was made from two antique chairs!!?? How neat is that! This is the work of

Jennifer of Metamorphose. I do not think she has a blog but I wanted to be sure to give her a shout out because her items are GORGEOUS!!!

I forgot to ask Marci if that wire laundry hamper was up for grabs. I would love one of those.

This spot is one of my faves. That light fixture is just too awesome and if we had a larger kitchen and a huge island this light fixture would so be mine.

I love the legs of the table. It is just fabulous!

Littliest liked the office area. I need to find an old map like this one for The Hubster's office.

This is the light fixture hanging in that space. It is an old plane propeller and just totally cool!

Thanx for coming along with me! I could have spent all day in the new space Marci has created! It truly is beautiful and I found out she may be adding some more little cottages. Now if only I can make time to paint some more pieces than I would sooo want a space here!! Marci truly has my dream job and you can tell how much pride she takes in her shops!! Thanx for letting me take some pics Marci!
If ya live in the area you MUST stop by The Old Oak Cottage! I promise you will not be disappointed.

Now off to put my boys to bed and then flip thru the new Ballard catalog that came today. Have a wonderful night and thanx for stopping by!

Frenchy Side Table Update

I posted a few weeks back on how I had finished my frenchy side table and listed it for sale on the local yard sale site along with a butcher block kitchen island I had redone as well. The island sold but my cute lil' table still sits. I have had a couple of inquiries but nothing serious. Today I decided to take my cute lil' frenchy side table and fancy her up a bit. If ya wanna see her before pics click here.
I am loving the new stencil in the center!

I am hoping this puts her over the top and makes somebody want take her home! If not I will have to find a place for her in my home and then I may never get rid of her!;)

And yes, that is a a lil' sneak peek at the completed fireplace! Stay tuned for its full reveal coming soon!:)
