Master Bedroom Design -On To The Next Project

I am slowly marking spaces off here at the new house. The kitchen is almost completed. Dining room, living room and breakfast nook as well. You can see the dining room here. I still need to take pictures of the other spaces.

The next room I want to tackle is our master bedroom. It has been a few years since I designed our master bedroom at the last house. 3 years to be exact. You can see more of our master bedroom at the last house here. I want to keep some of the same elements but change things up a bit for a fresh new look.

Here is the new master back before we moved in. It is a nice size room. A tad larger than our last.

Here is what it looks like today. Remember the worst the picture the better the makeover will look. LOL. As you can see I placed the bed in front of the three windows. Those are the buffalo check curtains from our living room at the last house. I just have them tacked up for now.

In the model home they had the bed set up on this wall where the vintage pie safe is. Though the wall is long enough for a king size bed by the time you place the two nightstands on either side you are starting to feel cramped. Placing the bed on this wall also means that I would be next to the bathroom door once again. Since I get up later that is not ideal. The pie safe will move into my sewing room while out in the garage awaits a  vintage french armoire that needs a makeover.

This is the wall to right as you walk into our master. It is a fairly long wall. Once I start painting we will be trying the bed out on this wall to see how it flows. I want the room to still feel open. Right now with the dark paint it feels very closed off and cave like.

Here is that same wall. I know there will be enough room for the night stands and bed and I am hoping a chair for Mr. Front Porch.

We have a recessed ceiling. I have many ideas swirling around of how I want to finish it off.

One is the dream of taking down the ceiling fan and placing  a beautiful chandelier like this one in its place. This could very well could be a pipe dream because we ALWAYS have our ceiling fan on even in the winter. I have to have cool air moving around or I feel like I am suffocating. This chandelier is amazing though!

I actually started on the master bedroom design last September before we had even closed on the house. I ordered a new bed. In this picture it looks more white but in reality it is more of a cream color. Once I get everything together the bed may actually get painted a gray color.

Before we moved in I also ordered this fabulous rug! As you can see I am keeping with my blue and gray theme.

With the blue and gray cemented I found some beautiful floral curtains. The curtains I used at the last house in the master I am actually using in our living room here at the new house.

Next up I ordered this navy ticking stripe bed skirt. I kept my fingers crossed as I was ordering everything. Ya never really know how well items will go together till they arrive.

They ended up thankfully going perfectly together! Even the grain sack inspired euro shams I purchased over the summer on clearance turned out to be just perfect! Next up was choosing a new paint color for the walls. The idea is to brighten it way up! The way our house is situated and the fact that we have the nature reserve behind our house means that this room never receives direct sunlight which I am not use to.

To brighten things I up I decided to go with Sherwin Williams Pearly White for the walls. I have never painted a room white so we shall see how this turns out. I have always used lighter colors that have a yellow undertone. Pearly white has a gray/blue undertone so I think it will be perfect.

I am hoping to have our master painted and set up in time for the holidays. I want to have a Christmas tree in there this year! Of course there are the projects that I would love to complete like the ceiling and building a faux fireplace but those are lofty objectives to have right before the holidays so I will be just as happy with new paint and bedding till the new year rolls around. Painting has already commenced so stay tuned!

  2. Ha! Mine knew better Holly. We went in to this telling the builder only to do what we were not willing to do ourselves like the flooring. Been there and done that. Worth paying for it. The paint I knew was a big no as soon as they started painting but I was not allowed to change it.

  3. Great fabric choices. It's going to be a very pretty room. I love your bed and the chandelier is gorgeous. But I'm with you, I have to have air circulating in my bedroom, so I have to have a ceiling fan.

  5. I think you need to keep the bed under the windows. Putting it on the right-hand side wall is not
Feng Shui. Not that I'm like totally Feng Shui but in a bedroom you want the bed to face the doorway. Love the items you have picked!!

  8. I'm the same way about a ceiling fan! Your style is AMAZING. I love everything - the bed, the colors, curtains, etc. A true sanctuary to go to sleep at night :)

  9. Hi, Looks beautiful. I had to comment on the bed facing a doorway. I would do it the way you mentioned. Strange Feng Shui says that, as flow wise, that would be my last choice. Have you painted yet, I like your choice of Pearly White, and are you pleased?
