French Country Farmhouse Dining Room Reveal

I keep getting asked to see more of our new home. We have been here almost 9 months now and I know that I have not shared much of it. It has been a slow process getting it to the way I want it to be. I am not one who can move in and instantly have everything perfect. I mull things over probably a little more than necessary. I also work on more than one space at a time which drives Mr. Front Porch crazy but hey in the end it is well worth it I think.

Today I am finally ready to reveal our dining room.
French Country Farmhouse- Dining Room-Makeover- From My Front Porch To Yours
Here is a reminder of how it looked a few months back. Though nice it was lack luster to me. It felt like I was trying to fit our old house into our new house. In essence I was but at the same time I wanted things to look new and fresh. I was also not liking how dark the space felt.

Here we are today and I have to say this space is one of my favorites in our home thus far.The main pieces staid the same but I did bring in new seating. The boys are older now..13 and 11 sigh...so the bench seating was no longer needed. You can read more about the seating and the new board and batten wainscoting here in my previous post. I also painted the space which makes a world of difference on how bright and airy it feels. You can see how dark the original color actually was if you look by the pantry door. I have not finished painting the kitchen just yet. LOL.

I fell in love with this vintage dough bowl or wagon or whatever it is. It is HUGE and heavy so I was limited on where I could display it. Took me awhile before I decided that it would find a home in the dining room. I think I will have fun changing out the vignette. You should see this in the evening when the candles are all aglow. It is magical. I will share pics soon!

My Santos Cage Doll found a home in the dining room as well. I was excited to come across the vintage crate while on vacation. I knew it was the perfect piece for her to stand upon.

Can you guess what might be my most favorite thing in our dining room?

I am in head over heels for the slip covers I ordered! I was afraid that one they would not fit...more on that in another post...and two that they would not be the color I need them to be. I lucked up and they are perfect!
French Country Farmhouse Dining Room-Board and Batten Wainscoting-Prayer Chalk Board- From My Front Porch To Yours
Adding the board and batten wainscoting was the perfect addition to the space and how about those sconces I ordered from Decor Steals! They are suppose to be hardwired but I will be changing them into plug ins in the future so I can use them from room to room if I want.

With the addition of the wainscoting I think that this space is pretty much complete. I do wish that the chandelier had a medallion but it is beyond heavy and I know that there is no way I can talk Mr. Front Porch into taking it down and then putting it right back up. I keep trying to figure out a way to get one up there without having to take it down.

The wicker chairs may be getting a makeover later down the road but for now they are just fine.

Of course I could not leave y'all without sharing a pic of my trusty assistant. She is just the sweetest thing in the world!

Hope that the reveal was worth the wait. Here is the link to our old dining room. Which one do you prefer?

We are currently finishing up our kitchen and I tell ya it makes me smile from ear to ear when I look at it!
Stay tuned.

  1. I Absolutely Love what you have done...it looks wonderful, light and airy....I have a question though..why have you left the doors in the China Cabnet unpainted ? I think they would look wonderful painted, or even without them....just my thoughts, not being critical, just curious:-)

    1. I decided not to paint the doors or the top of the buffet because I like the contrast. If they were painted it would all just blend in together. It deserved to stand out. Thank you for visiting and your kind comments!

  8. I absolutely love this dining room, from the blue upholstered chairs, to the gorgeous arrangement you made in the dough bowl. You have so much talent as a creative person and stylist. I want to see MORE of your new home!

And by the way...I work wherever I'm inspired, often with several rooms going on at once. You never know when or where you'll be inspired!

  10. Wow Pamela! Just WOW! I could exclaim over each and every item but my favorite thing in the room are your slipcovers. I am in love with them too! What an impact they make in the room. Everything is pulled together to perfection and I'm sure that's because you take such care in how you place each and every item. The hubbies can't seem to understand that at all can they? I don't know about your husband, but mine loves the end result and he knows that he would never be able to create it on his own. He's also grateful that he has such a cherished place to live, as I'm sure yours is also.
Thank you for sharing and blessings to you my friend.

  17. If you Google ceiling medallions you can find medallions that have four parts that glue to the ceiling and surround the light fixture. You can paint them. They're pretty nice. I've used them in the past. You can also order embellishments that can attach to the ceiling and surround the light fixture. Bomar embellishments comes to mind. Have fun and good luck. Pretty room and I love the rug the most!!!

    1. I will have to do that. I did not think they made such a thing. Thanks!

  18. Hmmmm, my husband wouldn't want to take down a light fixture just to put it right back up again either, lol! I've seen ceiling medallions that come in halves so you can put them up without taking down the light fixture....but for the life of me, I can't remember where I saw them. Look.... they're out there somewhere. I think you can attach them with liquid nails?
