Today I am sharing our simple farmhouse mantel. It has not always looked this light and bright. I painted the living room a little over a week ago.

I get many questions on why I am changing things in a brand new house that we just built. The paint is the number one thing I am in the process of changing. |
|
This is exactly why! On most days this is how dark our house is with the original color I had picked out for the build. It is called Caravan by Pittsburgh Paint and I loved it in another house I saw. With a covered front porch and a covered back porch Caravan makes our house seem like a cave. There was no editing on this pic. I took it with my phone. |

This day the sun was shining brightly so it was a tad lighter in the space. You can see the old color vs the new paint color. After going thru MANY sample pots I ended up going with Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray. I was disappointed that the builders paint vendor at the time was not Sherwin Williams. Of course two months after we made our selections they switched to Sherwin Williams but we were not allowed to change to them. We had to stick with Pittsburgh. Never mind the new rug out of place. I was in the process of getting it to lay flat before we move it under the couch. |
|
Now our living room is light bright and airy. I could not be more pleased! Once I get the breakfast nook and kitchen painted I will share the entire space. With an open concept it is hard to just stop in one place and not have it look funny.
P.s. The fireplace is one of the projects on our to d0 list. Wait till you see a few of the ideas we have for it! |
Sharing at these wonderful blogs:
It's a shame you had to do the repaint yourself, but it's obvious that the original paint is really dark. LOVE that new color, it's perfect on your walls! great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you Debra! I can't complain too much because they did let us change our outside color selection after the fact. I love our white farmhouse and hate to think I would have had to wait 5 years or so before we could have painted it white.
DeleteHey sweet lady! It has been a while since I've visited your new home and I really like the new paint color. I don't blame you at all for changing it! What a difference it makes!
ReplyDeleteHi Jane! It is always hard to visit every one. I love that you were able to stop by though! Now I can decorate my front and back porch up a storm like you! I alway love your porch ideas.
DeletePamela, your new paint color looks beautiful. It really brightens up the space. I know that you must be enjoying your new home! Hope that you are having a wonderful week!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Shannon. Hope your week is going well too!
DeleteI totally get you, Pamela. The new color looks much better but live and learn. I mess up with undertones. I was looking for a pure cream for a bath and it has a pink tint. Grrrrrr....
ReplyDeleteJane
Jane that is me too! Now my subway tile has pink undertones with the new paint.
DeleteMe too - did entire downstairs, upstairs, and two halls in a white that ended up having pink/lavender undertones - and I DID sample pots! I can't afford to change so much space - and I try not to sicken myself thinking about it too much. Color is sure tricky business!
DeleteI understand about that paint. You know what makes you feel good and you might as well go for it.
ReplyDeleteStacey what colors did you pick for your new house? Still dreaming about your island chandies!
DeleteGood for you in getting it done right away. We bought a builder's spec home 6 years ago with the agreement we would pay him to convert a bathtub to a walk-in shower and build in some bookcases. Still waiting for that to happen...ha!
ReplyDeleteUnderstand that one. Ours was suppose to replace some mirrors and do a few other things. So far nope.
DeleteLove, love it Pamela!...and what great symmetry of the mantelscape!....Love your new paint color! (Sorry they would not let you change it!)
ReplyDeleteThank you Shirley! Can not wait to see your adventure begin!
DeleteLove the color you picked out! I can relate to how you feel about the builder grade paint. I couldn't wait to start changing the color. It made the walls look dingy and drab, I choose Comfort Gray by Sherwin Williams for my living room. Our ceilings are quit high, so we put molding up to meet the top of the alcove and painted everything below a bright white to lightning up the living room and Comfort Gray above it. I drive my husband crazy with my project, but, he loves them after the fact. Your home is lovely! Enjoy!
DeleteNew paint looks great! Have u ever thought of painting your shutters a lighter color? The contrast (at least in your photos) seems to darken the room. BUT, of course, overall your home is lovely!!
ReplyDeleteCan you please tell me where you bought the candle lanterns? Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteI love the new paint color - it really does open up and brighten your home! I also wanted to comment on those sweet curtains that I caught a peek at in the pictures - where did you get them? I was wondering if you could show a better picture of them - they are lovely! thanks for sharing your home with us - and letting us know we all have stuff we don't like about our homes :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent job. I love what you did to your mantel
ReplyDeleteThe new paint color looks great. We like the fact that we can look in on your changes in the new home. It gives us insight into how to make changes in our home.
ReplyDeleteI love the lighter color. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow! Looks fab!! Can you tell me what your paint color was for both the "pretty white" and the "greige"? :) Thanks!

I do not remember what the original colors were.
