Have you ever had one of those projects that you start and think oh this will be a semi quick one to complete? I certainly have had a few.

We had been wanting to rip the carpet off of our stairs for years. They are hard to clean and I hate dragging the vacuum up and down them. |
|
We had finally taken the leap and ripped the carpet off of the bottom three steps. Those we knew would be our most challenging because of the angled sides. We debated about exactly how to complete the task at hand. We stared at the naked steps for awhile. Let's be honest it was quite a while. I will not say exactly how long but some may remember when we started this task!;) We even had a few contractors come in to give us a quote on completing the three steps, as well as the entire stair case. We had quotes for almost $1,000 just for the three steps! |
Needless to say we opted to do it ourselves with help from The Papa. Nothing like prepping your home for sale to give ya a quick kick in the pants to complete things!:) We debated on whether to use reclaimed wood or whether to use pine treads or a million other options. We ended up in the end just using the flooring we already had on hand. Then there was debate on how to lay said flooring. There was the typical horizontal design but none of us liked that idea and then I said hey let's lay it vertical to match the floor and give it more character. Surprisingly Mr. Front Porch and The Papa were on board with the idea. They cut the pieces out and we did a test run to ensure they would all fit before we installed them. I was thankfully able to stain the oak end caps to match the flooring perfectly.

The end result turned out amazing! |

Mr. Front Porch and The Papa did a wonderful job cutting each piece to fit perfectly! |

We love how they turned out and hate that it took us so long to decide on just how we wanted to complete them. If we end up not selling we are going to see if we have enough flooring to at least take the design up to the stair landing. |
That did turn out great! It's terrible how much some of these contractors want. For a thousand dollars the contractor better be hand buffing and adding gold leaf for each step! LOL… Houses seem to be selling fast even where I live and we aren't necessarily a hot market zone. My friend's home just sold in a week- she thought she would have a good while before it happened! Best of luck with yours- perfect time of the year to sell!
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. I'd love to have wooden stairs. Carpet is so hard to clean.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty idea. Love how the just take the flooring right up the stairs. You've inspired me to stop living with my bathroom of a many colors and just chose one and get 'er painted already.
ReplyDeleteThe steps look wonderful! Those estimates were outrageous, weren't they! We have carpet on our steps, and the bottom four look horrible... the kids must have their feet wiped clean by the fifth step, ugh! lol! ~Rhonda
ReplyDeleteI love this, Pamela! Carpeted stairs are a pain and the dirt and beaten path that runs down the middle??? Ugh! Glad you found a great solution!
