My Birthday!

My birthday was this past week and well I am sure y'all may be wondering what my birthday and me standing on a toilet have in common!?

This is what they have in common. Back at Thanksgiving when we went home to Ga my mom had a new chandy in her water closet. It was very vintage french flea market and I remember loving it so and even trying to find one for myself on line to no avail. Well guess what my mom sent me for my birthday!? Yep, thats right a vintage frenchy flea market like chandy of my very own!:) Thanx Mom!

Here is the light in our water closet. Standard boring builders grade lighting. Yawn.

Here is what it looks like this evening after The Papa and The Hubster put it up for me! I need to get a differ type of bulb for it cause well it is a very bright light to say the least.

Let me tell ya it is NOT easy getting a pic of a chandy in the water closet! I literally took close to 200 pics trying to get just a few good ones to share with y'all.

Here is another view.  Like Mother like daughter!:)  The chandy was orginaly a distressed gold which is beautiful but it did not quite match our bathroom so I did some tweaking to get it to match as closely to our fixtures as possible.

Here is a pic of the new finish. I think mom will approve. Thanx again Mom! Can't wait to see ya next week!:)

Have a great weekend y'all and thanx for stopping by! Also a BIG Thank you to my new followers!

All Because Of A Tablecloth!

This is what I have been working in the past few days as well as other projects. The cabinet we have owned for 9 years now and it use to sit in our foyer. It came from Ikea. I always wanted to do something to it but never did. I was  too chicken and when we moved it ended up in my sewing room for fabric storage. If you remember from a previous post I was hard headed and moved it on my own with a hutch on top and busted the leg off the back. The Papa is in town and so the cabinet came downstairs to get repaired and so it HAD to be painted while it was down here.

WARNING: You may need to wear your shades to view the following pictures!:)

You may be thinking oh my how scary and to tell you truth I was thinking the exact same thing when I opened this up. I could not believe I was actually going to be using this color.

Doubt still lingered but I charged on with the faith that all would end well.

Decided that was just too much Sherwin Williams Nervy Hue 6917 so I added some SW Vanillin to the middle of the doors. I also used Vanillin as the base coat.

The hard part begins. I always hand sand everything even though I own a palm sander. The palm sander always clogs up and leave marks I can never get out.

After some distressing I added some stain to tone down the Nervy Hue and also to add some more aging to the piece.

The neighbors all think I am crazy I am sure since I carried this piece out of the garage by myself with camera in tow to take pics. The sun actually makes the color off but further down you can see the true color.

I love how the top turned out.

Aren't these the coolest knobs ever!?

Here let's get a closer look. They are from HobLob and a whopping $7.99 a piece but this week half off so in my cart they jumped! In this pic you can see the true color of the cabinet.

And just in case you are wondering why on earth I chose Nervy Hue here is the pic of my inspiration. I hit the color pretty dead on to the April Cornell tablecloth turned curtains in my sewing/craft room. That was a HUGE relief!! Now all I need to do is let it finish drying so I can take it back up stairs and put the cream hutch back on top. If ya wanna see the curtains you can go here.
Hope your week is going well! I have been super busy so I have not been blog hopping lately but promise to stop by soon!

Checking In

Been really busy but wanted to stop in and say hi! Hope everybody's week has started off well. My heart and prayers continue to go  out to those in Japan and to those with loved ones in Japan. I have to keep reminding myself that even though things seem really horrible right now that it will not be long before we start hearing abt miracles that rise from such tragedy! I know there will be miracles!
The first round of GPs arrived this past Saturday so we continue to stay busy. Oldest will celebrate his 7th bday next week and this upcoming weekend is his party with his classmates. He is soo excited. We go and order the cake tomorrow. In the mean time I have enjoyed some free time and have started a few projects. Stayed tune! I hope to actually finish them this week sometime. Keeping fingers crossed.
