Breakfast Nook Plans

I hope that everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving! Did anyone do any Black Friday shopping? What did you get? I ordered Christmas pjs online. That was about the extent of it. I spent my time instead finishing the faux cathedral window which I ended up being one piece short so we need to run to Home Depot now that it has hopefully quieted down from the shopping mania. I also have been working on more holiday decorating and have started the plans for our next project.

Here is our breakfast nook. I know it isn't the best pic. Lighting has always been an issue but it is better now that the new paint color has lightened and brightened the area. My plan is to flank the windows with cabinets and build a banquette. The windows are not centered to the space so it was a challenge to find cabinets that would fit on both sides. One day we may do built ins but for now I wanted furniture looking pieces. I am afraid if we do built ins they would need to look like our kitchen cabinets and I think that would be too much of the same style.

I found this cabinet and instantly fell in love with it! It was just what I had imagined for the space but alas it was too long for either side of the windows. I found it at AtHome.

Next I found this cabinet also from AtHome and I really liked the color of it. It ended up being too long for one side though by an inch and that was even with trimming down the windowsill.

So I ended going back to my original selection. The crossbuck/X doors match the design of our tv cabinet in the living room. I of course can not leave well enough alone and they will be getting a makeover.

Here is a very rough sketch of my plans. I probably won't start on it till after the holidays but I am excited! This space has always seemed forgotten and with this design it will finally flow with the rest of the main areas of our home.

  1. I got some good deals from "At Home" on black Friday - one set of 3 flocked trees for 50% off (I'm using them on my front porch) and I got a dining table for $75 it was marked down from $299!

  2. Very pretty make over in progress. I know how aggravating it is when something doesn't fit by an inch!! I think there is a new At Home near me, did you like them? How are their prices? Melinda

    1. Over all they are fun to walk thru. The only time I ever really go there is during the holidays. I always end up buying some decorations from them.
