French Farmhouse Cottage Style Dining Room

french farmhouse dining room-design selections-from my front porch to yours
We have been in our new home 2 years at the end of October. I have never been one that can just throw a room together and call it a day so our dining room has been a work in progress.

Over the past two years it has come a long way. One of the first things we did was swap out the builder grade chandelier for my Mia Pottery Barn Chandelier that use to hang over our master tub at the old house. Then I painted the upper walls SW Mindful Gray and added board and batten wainscoting to the bottom. The seating has been swapped out as well.

One of my favorite seating additions are the parson chairs slip covered with Waverly Ballad Bouquet.

Even with the chandelier swapped out, custom wainscoting, new paint, and new chairs this space still needed more for it to feel homey.

I recently placed an order for this navy and dot indoor/outdoor rug from Ballard Designs when I had a 30% off coupon. I can not wait for it to come in sometime in November. Our dining room rug at the last house was from them as well. That was 9 years ago and the rug still looks good as new and resides on our back porch here at the new house.

I also purchased some blue and white buffalo check fabric.

These windows have been pretty much naked and when I saw the buffalo check fabric I knew it was just what this space needed. The colors go perfectly with the parson chairs and the foyer rug.

Here are the new curtains! You can also see my curbside Fiddleback chairs fit in nicely as well.
I think once the new rug arrives I will finally feel like our dining room says home.

Now of course that won't stop me from coming up with other changes over time. Like dreaming of this gorgeous chandelier from Ballard Designs. I love my Mia chandelier but when I saw this one my heart went pitter pat. It will probably stay a dream chandelier unless we happen upon one at a Ballard Designs outlet. It sure is pretty though!

I am working on sharing more of our dining room all decked out for fall so be sure to stop back by!

  4. Looks great, quite the transformation. I am a blue girl and it works for me. Need to get that Ballard Blue but just don't know where to use it, have loved it for a very long time. Have the same rugs in my home, they last forever and never fade.

    Nice design! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Yes, they do last forever and do not fade. Main reason why I do not mind spending little more on them.
