Let's Talk Christmas Trees- Our Christmas Tree Thru the Years

Christmas Tree Inspiration-From My Front Porch To Yours
If you could see my house right now you would think a bomb went off. Between Fall still in the dining room and all the Christmas bins that are stacked around it is quite a site in here. I will be sharing our Thanksgiving dining room on Friday but till then I thought that I would share what I am up to right now.
Our Christmas tree last year decided to start giving me fits a few days before the jolly man himself was to visit. I attempted to cut all the lights off after Christmas but it was too daunting of a task so the tree ended up at the curb.

In comes our new tree! I fell in love with this tree last year so I jumped at the chance to order it. I love the rustic old timey feel it has. I found it at Grandin Road.

I ordered it slightly too short for our liking so we made a stand for it that raised it up about a half a foot. I have gotten lights on it and even more since I took this picture. I am now at a stand still though! I can not decide how I want to decorate this darn thing and if I could get away with it I would just let it in its natural state but that will not fly with my men. The problem comes with the fact that I am trying to make it flow with our mantel which I am totally excited about but I can not show ya any pics of that yet!;)

To help in my brainstorming I decided to take  a look back at our previous trees. Come on along with me!

I am so glad that my photography skills have gotten better since our 2010 tree. We always had a real tree up until  2013. Picking out a tree was always so much fun!

2011 I used the same decorations we have had since we were first married. Only thing different is how I changed up the ribbon.

With our 2012 tree I decided to bring in burlap. This is probably my least favorite tree.

Our 2013 tree was our first faux tree which I loved the look of and would still be using it the lights had not started going out. I would replace them for only new ones to follow. This was also the year I did all new decorations.

Then here is our 2014 tree and I have to say this one is my favorite trees! I used some decorations from 2014 but brought in a lot of vintage touches to it. I would love to be able to do the same theme this year but my mantel is saying no. I have already decorated the new tree somewhat to only have taken it all off three times now. Hoping if I stare at it long enough something will come to me.

  3. Not to be contrarian but I actually love the burlap tree. I had burlap for two years. It was so much fun. I just love your new tree. It's so real looking. I too have clipped lights off of a tree. Not fun at all! I can't wait to see that mantel.

    1. I don't know why but that burlap tree just didn't speak to me. I did though use the burlap on our 2013 tree which is my 2nd favorite.

  4. They are all so pretty and unique, but I'm just crazy about your new tree and can't wait to see what you do with it! I'm wondering myself. I'm thinking I will end up with way less than I think in the end. Thanks for the tip on the tree:-)

  7. Love the post! I like the burlap tree, but the tree that followed won my heart. We should name our trees, then it would be easier to talk about them! Loving the peek into your kitchen, too!

  9. They are all so pretty! My tree tends to look the same every year because I use family decorations and can't bring myself to do a "theme." To solve this problem, I often have more than one tree. One for traditional things and another for a theme! We always use real trees which is a mess, but smells so wonderful!
Your trees are inspiring and beautiful and have me thinking now! Thanks for sharing!

  11. Pamela,
I like how you share all your trees with us. We have just started installing shiplap and painting our family room today...after that I hope to start decorating the house. I did the shop last week, so I am in the mood.

    Blessings,
    Linda

  12. I really like the 2011 tree. But your new tree is really cool!

Did you anchor the tree in the bucket? My dogs always dig the drag the tree skirt out and make a bed out of it so I was thinking of doing a bucket this year also.

  13. Love the Grandinroad Christmas tree. Got their catalog in the mail the other day. It photographs MUCH nicer than the catalog. Was it on sale when you got it? I really like it and can't decide if I should wait til after Christmas.

  14. Pamela, First I like the tree from 2014. I can tell you exactly how to decorate this new tree. I checked out your blog because I just purchased this same tree. I have a lot of large heavy ornaments and I know this is the tree for those. You decorate this tree from the trunk outward. So dig out your largest and heaviest ornaments first and put them inside of the tree closer to the trunk. Then you work your way out with the smaller lighter ones. My childhood girlfriend used to always have these trees and I loved them. They had those old fashioned glass bulbs that were the size of a small soccer ball deep inside to the tree. Then string the old fashioned glass bead garlands loop big around it. For a real old fashioned look string popcorn on it. Pop a bowl of popcorn and just use a needle and sewing thread and string away. Most styles of trees only lend to putting ornaments on the outer tips, that's why this one is great. You can put stuff deep inside and there is room to see it. I can see this one even in your porch dinning area with old tea cups and saucers hanging in it. It would be able to handle that weight. Have fun and if you don't like it just redo it. Judy

My childhood girlfriend used to always have these trees and I just loved them. They had those old fashioned XL glass bulbs the size of a small soccer ball deep inside the tree. Then they would put the glass garland beads in big loops all around it. For a real old fashioned tree string popcorn on it. Just pop you a bowl of popcorn and get a needle and some sewing thread and start stringing and eating. I saw your picture of a table on a back porch or something. I could totally see this tree there with teacups and saucers hanging in it. You could do that with this type of tree is what I'm getting at. Anyway have fun and remember if you don't like the end result just redo it. Judy
