Fixer Upper Sign = Gallery Wall Update

Fixer Upper Grow Old With Me Sign- The Magnolia Market-From My Front Porch To Yours
I shared with y'all a few days ago how I purchased this steel sign from The Magnolia Market after seeing it on Fixer Upper. I was super excited to receive it and to get it displayed but once it came in I was stumped. I knew it was more of an industrial piece and I ended up with one that looked more new rather than those that have a patina. It is hit or miss exactly what finish you will receive since each one is individually crafted.
I needed to come up with a way to make it fit in with our decor. My first thought was to try and age it and that did not work. Jimmy Don and his crew put a special coating on the piece to protect it so I figured trying to age it was a long shot. Then I thought about going and having it framed but it already weighs a ton and adding a frame to it would have just made it all the more heavy. I finally decided to rework the gallery wall in our living room and hung it up there. I then created a faux frame with some salvage picture frame moldings my mom had given me a few Christmas's back.

The salvaged frame pieces are just what this sign needed to fit in with the feel of our home.

With a little bit of chalk paint and gold paint, the black frame pieces turned into the perfect addition.

Of course when you change one thing up that leads to changing everything else up so these shutters that use to be Chateau Gray were painted Duck Egg.

Gallery Wall- Kinnaird Castle Vintage Post Card- The Magnolia Market-From My Front Porch To Yours
I framed an old postcard dated back from 1905 I believe the post mark states of Kinnaird Castle over in Scotland. I traced Mr. Front Porch's family back to this castle so I thought it would be neat to display it on the wall.

Just a reminder of my first attempt at the gallery wall a few years back.

This is the now! I love how it all is coming together and I have more room towards the bottom if I find other pieces to add.

The best thing about this update was that I did not have to buy a thing...except of course the "Grow Old" sign.
Now off to finish touching up the wood beams so I can share them with you all.

  3. In the first photo it seems to have black ink but the others look like the shop online. Carved. Which is more accurate? I think your framing goes with your house very well. Plain goes with other styles. Both look good but not if they are black ink looking.

    1. Gwen if you look closely at the first pic you can see thru the lettering. It is just the angLe I took the pic That makes it look like the wording is black. It's a steel sign with the letters cut out.

  8. I noticed the drapes reflected in the mirror. I would like to make curtains, bed skirt, a pillow or two for the Master. Did you purchase the fabric? If so, please let me know where. I have spent some time searching for a buffalo print style fabric.

    1. Hi Vicky! Thanx for stopping by today. The fabric I used to make our curtains came from Ikea. They also have pillow covers and a duvet in the same buffalo check. You can find it all online.

  10. Oh this is just beautiful! The sign is gorgeous. My gallery wall leading up the stairs is in need of a makeover. I never replaced a lot of the frames once I took the CHristmas wreaths down, I'm thinking I am going to be on the hunt for some shutters now that I see your's! Thanks for sharing, have a wonderful week! xo
