I am so happy you can come over for a visit. We LOVE it when friends come over to our house. It is just the girls and I...so our home is over the top feminine and we like it that way. So take off your shoes, relax and stay for awhile.

I don't know if I like to decorate our home in a specific style but I can tell you that every detail of our home has a story to tell.  I do love Romantic Shabby French. I like a room that can express emotions and make you wonder than a room that is perfectly put together.

I find that as an artist, the only way I know how to express my emotion is through art and creating. Instead of looking at our home as a place to decorate, I use it as my blank canvas. I am also lucky because I am the only grown up in the house and no one is going say, "No, Victoria, you cannot put book covers all over the wall or have a swing in the middle of the house or paint your fridge." It is pretty awesome.

I found my decorating style while I was searching for the broken pieces of myself. It all started when I became newly single mother with two little girls and pretty empty house.  During many sleepless nights of rediscovery, I spent countless hours devouring Rachel Ashwell's books. The idea that old and discarded pieces could bring so much beauty to a space really intrigued me. She was so unapologetically girly and somehow I as a woman felt really celebrated by it. I went through a really shabby chic phase and loved every second of it. Though I am most inspired by artists' studios and homes. Almost everything in our home has either been painted or created by me and of course there are a few beloved antiques. It is the perfect artist playground!

My most adored piece in the house is this painting! Oh how I love thee.

It is a nine foot oil painting on canvas of Monet's Madame Monet and Son. I saw it at a local antique shop. I knew I had to have it but the owner wasn't sure if he could part of it since it was a wedding gift for him and his wife. I dreamed about it for weeks and decided to go back one last time.  For whatever reason they decided to sell and it came home with me. My girls think it is Mary Poppins and some little boy.

My suggestions for creating a beautiful home...know your story and own it. What's your story? Whatever story it maybe, tell it. The most important thing to me is to be my own protagonist. Do you decorate for yourself or do you decorate so other people will like it? There is nothing worst than being a secondary character in your own story. I believe a home should represents who we are as people.  Just like pages from a novel, a home tells a story of where we have been, where we are and where we plan to go. A home should be a collection of memories, some sweet while other bitter yet they are all bound together to create us as people.

  7. Pamela thank you for featuring Victoria. Victoria I love your feminine style designing your nest with love and romance for you and your two beautiful young girls. Your comment about designing for yourself and not others is so correct. You may have started with a blank canvas but your spirit full of beauty has created a romantic color palate embraced in love and happiness. You are a delightful inspiration.
