How I Found My Style Sundays- Hymns & Verses

From My Front Porch To Yours- How I Found My Style Sundays

I'm so happy to be here today!  My name is Doreen and my blog is  Hymns and Verses.

So - how did I find my style?  I think for me - my style has evolved, but one constant in my style has been to include vintage pieces that have a sense of nostalgia.

Furniture and accessories with a story are abundant in my home.

I am so fortunate to have pieces from my family that I treasure - like my corner cabinet that has been passed down through the generations.  When I was a little girl, this cabinet was in my grandmother's kitchen and was painted white.  It's been through some changes over the years, but it's painted once more and now resides in my dining room.

Did you notice that little yellow high chair?  It was my father's, but it wasn't yellow when he sat in it!  I also have pieces of furniture that I've collected - they also have a story to tell.  One of my favorite finds is this dining room table and chairs.

I saw this table and chairs at a yard sale.  It was in really bad shape, but would you look at the legs on the table!  They literally had me driving around the block just to find a place to pull over and get a closer look.  The entire set was $40!  It did get a major makeover with chalk paint and the chairs got new seat covers!  Oh, and do you see the farmhouse bench - that came from my great aunt's farmhouse.  I sat at that old bench for many meals when I was young!

Another piece with a story is this old door.

One day I found an awesome little place run by a husband and wife team in their 80's- but, are so young at heart!  They still ride bicycle, cook by the light of a lantern on a real wood stove, and make items to sell using only hand tools.  They also have what most would consider "junk" for sale.  Lots of old doors, windowpanes, ladders, and more! I've developed a wonderful friendship with them and one of the pieces I picked up there was this old door that I turned into a family message center.

I added a rusty handle that I found, along with hooks for hanging up scarves and totes, rusty wheel casters for hanging up keys,  and a wire basket to corral the mail.

I also picked up an old barn door at the same place  and  made it into a sign for my living room.  It's the first thing you see when you come into my home and  one of my very favorite things.

I use smaller vintage items to add nostalgia to my decor.  Like tying an old skeleton key to the top of a cloche.

Or framing a piece of vintage sheet music.

I also take my love of vintage to the outdoors.  This is my sister's circa 1960's Schwinn.

And here's a look at my front porch this summer with more vintage pieces I've collected over the years.  You can barely see it, but the egg basket on the lower shelf was used by my grandmother to collect the daily eggs on the farm.

And, I found this French chair at a local auction and turned it into a planter with a galvanized tub in the seat.

I hope you've enjoyed taking a little look around my home to see how I incorporate things with meaning or nostalgia into my decor!  I'd love for you to stop by for a visit at Hymns and Verses to see more!
Thanks, again, Pamela for having me here today!
