Thank you so much, Pamela, for having me over to your gorgeous blog and sharing How I Found My Style with your lovely readers.
I'm sure you can tell by my profile photo that I love french decor. What exactly is my decorating style? I think about this a lot actually. I know it's not something most people think of but I do spend a lot of time thinking about it because it helps me make decide on purchases for my home. I define my style as Rustic Beachy French.
What does that mean? Well, I basically picked three words that describe my style and I decorate around those three words.
Rustic to me can be industrial or vintage.
Beachy to me means anything coastal like my capiz shell chandelier.
French to me is anything French or Swedish or anything in that torn, faded, grain-sack, European era.
How did I find my style? It's taken years for me to define it but I've always just loved all these three things: rustic, beachy and french.
I grew up on a farm so I'm partial to rusty and chipped things. I looooove the laid back beachy white coastal feel. And I've loved everything to do with Paris and french stuff since I was young.
I used to sway back and forth between all those items but then one day I decided to just make it all work! I didn't want to be defined by just one certain style. I love all three and I make it work because I love it!
It can take a long time to find all the pieces that fit in your home. Some things you can buy new but others take patience to find through treasure hunting.
I tend to love everything that Restoration Hardware puts out.
But I also want it to reflect me so I don't want my home to look like an RH showroom. And it's also fun to find items for a great price!
My most treasured piece in my home is a hard one for me to answer. I want to say my dough bowl because I love it and searched high and low for it. But if my house was burning would I grab it? Probably not. But I would be heartbroken if something ever happened to it. But then I tend to love really big and heavy items {suitcases, crocks, dough bowls, scales, furniture} so they would be hard to break or lose ;)
The easiest tip for creating a beautiful home is just to buy things you love. Even if that means that item was once junk to someone else. You have to stop worrying what everyone else likes and just do what you like. As soon as I stopped worrying, my whole place started to come together. I don't watch trends and only get on board with a trend if I love it, not because it's "in".
I also tend to like things clean and simple and organized. If a room has these three elements plus the items you love, you can't go wrong!
I hope you can stop by my blog some time and take a look around.
Thanks so much for having me here!!
