The Living Room

I have been day dreaming of new furniture for our living room for several years now. If you notice I do not share many pictures of our living room very often. I just have not been able to pull things together in this space how I want them.

This pic is two years old. We purchased the couch and yellow chair from StoreHouse back when we built our first house 11 years ago. There is actually another chair we bought to go with it but it has since been retired to the boys play room. It has been a wonderful set but all have seen better days even two years ago.

I am so glad that we had the foresight to go with a slip covered couch back then. Two cats, two boys, and a puppy later all of our furniture is tired/stained/holey. I honestly am embarrassed by how dirty they look no matter how much I try to clean them. I attempted to buy the Ektorp slip cover from Ikea last year for the couch but it was too small. I was lucky enough to find a ruffled slip cover from UglySofa.com for the yellow chair though. They had one for the couch too but honestly after all the trouble it was to keep the one on the chair I did not even bother with the one for the couch. They are pretty and the exact look I was wanting but I prefer fitted slip covers. The constant tucking is just not for me.

Last weekend while surfing the world wide web I came across this sofa by FlexSteel. I fell instantly in love with it but could not find anybody who sold it online to even see how much it cost. I took to my blog FaceBook page and sent out an SOS. Thankfully a sweet reader who works for a furniture store told me how much it went for at her shop. The gears in my head started turning even more thinking I could surely talk The Hubster into it. The next challenge though was not talking The Hubster into the sofa but to actually find it locally so we could sit on it and make sure it really was what we wanted.
While web surfing I found this indoor outdoor rug on O.co. I love using indoor outdoor rugs in our home. They are such easy upkeep and last forever with the high traffic of the boys and pets.
Wanting a new couch led me to searching for a new coffee table as well!;) Our coffee table has seen better days too with scratches, missing screws, and gnawed off corners from one puppy.
Then that led to finding fabrics for pillows even possible curtains. I love this print by Waverly!
It is called Spring Bling and comes in a vintage color scheme as well.
I am using the Ikea Alvine Spits fabric for valances in our breakfast room that I am currently working on so I figured I will try and work the sheers into the living room as well.
I have an entire bolt of this buffalo check fabric from Ikea. I am thinking  maybe curtains. Not sure though cause I am really loving the antiqued Waverly floral fabric.

If I forgo the floral Waverly fabric I could easily see this chair from PierOne in our living room! I adore it but do have reservations about how well it will hold up with the boys. The last Pier One chair I looked at had very thin fabric on it. I wish they had curtains in this print. I would buy those in a heart beat!
I had fun making a few idea boards for the first time. I am so behind on the times when it comes to idea boards!;) I am really loving this board and am thinking maybe I can pull it off. I need to choose a new paint color for the living room too. Many things need to come together but with our 12 year anniversary coming up and some rainy day money I think some changes may be coming soon to our living room!;)
Before I go I wanted to thank Somerset Home// Stampington!
They so graciously featured my frenchy ottoman that I made at "Make Your Own Ottoman Class" back in the spring at Metamorphosis Studios. It is a true honor to be a part of this beautiful issue! I highly suggest it as a must buy.
Other wonderful bloggers like Jennifer Rizzo, Junk Chic Cottage, Buckets Of Burlap, and Cedar Hill Ranch are all in it as well!

  5. Your idea board is great, Pamela! I'm really hooked on that buffalo check fabric, and I think it would look fantastic combined with the floral and the sheer -- all 3 together in pillows, window treatments & slipcovers.

Congratulations on the magazine feature -- that is so cool!

  6. Hi, congrats on your ottoman getting featured....that's wonderful. Also, I am with you on the idea boards...I'm a late starter, or a no starter...I do better buying one piece at a time and letting unfold...course sometimes it takes years...lol

  7. Hi Pamela, we actually have a flexsteel factory 20 minutes from us, and they have an "outlet" store that we can go and buy furniture and fabric from. They have served us well. I haven't been in a while, so I just may have to pop in there this week.

  9. I have that pier one chair, but in the ticking fabric. While it has held up to my three girls, it is in the sunroom where they don't often sit. It's comfy and so pretty though!

  13. Oh Pamela, I love your choices and I've been daydreaming along the same lines as you. I love that style of tufted sofa, and that style chair. I think the large Buffalo Check goes perfectly with that floral chair. It all looks wonderful!!

  16. GORGEOUS sofa. The chair from Pier 1 looks great but unfortunately it probably wouldn't hold up. I too love indoor/outdoor rugs because I have a cat. GO for the sofa.

  20. Great choices, but I think you should have 2 chairs from Pier One, and you know you could always use the extra seating. :) They are so gorgeous. The greens you picked are fabulous, and with the buffalo check, wow. Good job.

  21. I'm terrible at decorating, so it's helpful for me to see how those who are great at it go about the process for their own homes. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I love that sofa, by the way! Doesn't it always happen that what we love best is the hardest to come by!
