Simple DIY Pantry Door Sign- Farmhouse Kitchen Style

I am one of those gals who really could care less about the Super Bowl. I was counting down to 'This Is Us'. LOL. While patiently waiting I decided to do a simple DIY project.

The pantry door was calling out for a little something more so I made a quick sign. This project literally took me all of 30-45 minutes.

Out in the garage I had all the supplies I needed. Nothing better than a simple and free project!:) I grabbed a piece of scrap wood from when we put the board and batten up in the dining room. The scrap was the perfect size for this project. I also grabbed my can of chalkboard paint.

I painted both sides of the scrap and since I am impatient out came my crafting blow dryer.

Once the paint was dry I cut out the printed word GROCERY that I made over on Picmonkey. This is probably what takes the longest because you have to decide what font to use and then what size. It took several attempts at printing to accomplish the correct size. I opted for the word GROCERY instead of the typical PANTRY option.

Next I used a #2 pencil and just shaded in the back of the letters. This is the technique I use whenever I make any DIY sign. I never figured out how to use my Silhouette.:(

Once I had shaded the letters in I taped the paper to the wood and used a ball point pen to trace around each letter.

Now you may have been thinking that the pencil was not going to show up on the black but it did. It worked perfectly!

Now this step you can use a paint pen if ya want. I had a chalk marker on hand. Chalk markers are super hard to wipe off so I wasn't worried about the sign getting smudged once on the door. I always have to take a Magic Eraser to get the chalk marker off. I had to go over each letter a few times to fill each letter in waiting in between for each to dry. Thankfully it doesn't take long for the marker to dry.

After the chalk marker dried I used adhesives from 3M hooks I had. I placed two one each side and placed the sign on the door.

It was just what this space needed to make it feel complete.

    1. Thank you Linda and yes you are right they do. I knew I wanted to make it look like something special because you can see it first thing when you walk in our front door. We have a archway from our dining room into the kitchen.
