Farmhouse Foyer & Big Plans

In my last post I shared a look back at our foyer in our previous house and then shared what our new foyer looked like when we moved in 4 months ago.

Even though it is much smaller than our previous foyer we have big plans for it.

One is to come up with a design for the ceiling. Until then we took down the builder light.

This Carriage House style light fits the house so much better I think.

The next piece that came into play was this rug that I found  at HomeGoods. I had originally purchased it for our living room but it ended up being too small and I really hated to return it so I tried it out in the foyer and really liked it. It is a little out of the box for me but I loved it so.

I had to place my vintage secretary in the foyer because there is no other place for it. I am not ready to part with it. If you remember it use to sit next to our fireplace at the last house. The little bit of wall space in the new foyer was just enough space for it.

Some would have placed a hall tree here but one we actually do not use our front door all that often like we did at our last house. At our last house it was the main means of entering our home. Here it is only used for the boys after school and when guests come or when I am piddling on the porch. Secondly I have a large walk in closet in the hallway that we will be building out as a mud room. That way guests do not have to see all of our stuff thrown about and let's face it with two boys stuff gets thrown about all the time after school.

I have had these vintage inspired bird pictures for several years now. I never found a place to use them at the last house. I think they work perfectly here.

This wall will eventually get board and batten treatment which will completely transform the space. Please ignore the lack of vignettes in the secretary. I have not yet brought all of my decor out of storage.

The office doors will be painted and new hardware installed in due time.

The archways into the rest of the house we have plans of using brick thin set. The foyer leads into a small area in which you can either go straight into the living room, left into the hallway, or right into the kitchen. We plan on bricking the entire area.

Until I get a chance to start on the larger transformations I plan on enjoying things just the way they are now. It makes for a great beginning on turning our house into our home. Though I have to say I wish I could just twitch my nose and blink my eyes and have all of our visions come to life. We put a lot of sweat equity into our last home and I honestly cringe thinking about starting all over again but I honestly when I think about it I am at my happiest when I am in the midst of projects.

Our sweet Savannah loves the new rug in the foyer. Since most of our home has wood flooring she misses having a soft spot to lay. Savannah invites y'all back soon because I will be sharing our front porch! I was outside playing around with it the other day and I have to say it is so much fun having a true front porch!

  5. I know what you mean about having to 'work a piece in' that you are not ready to part with...that one is too pretty to let go and it looks like it works great for the foyer...especially if you aren't going in and out every minute. It is actually a nice accent piece. Hope you have a great weekend- xo Diana

  9. Pamela,
I agree that your new foyer light fixture is much better for your house than the builder fixture. The rug goes very nicely with the fixture also.

  11. Your foyer is perfect, love the secretary where you placed it. Looks like it was made just for that spot. I can't wait to see the brick work you are going to do. It will be awesome for sure, just as the rest of your home is!

  12. How I envy you the excitement and plans to pretty up your new home. Seeing your foyer reminds me of our house in KY. When our son redid it he made a nice sized foyer which we'd never had before. He also built wonderful good sized front porch onto, still miss that house and it was 2004 when we moved here to western CO.
Your foyer is much bigger, wow how nice it is, love that secretary and bird pictures. And that gorgeous chandelier over table along with your front door caught my attention, looks like for Arts and crafts style home.
They have a builders home tour in Grand Junction in upscale neighborhoods we went to early on moving here. When I commented about certain features being like Arts and Crafts/Craftsman style house one real estate agent commented I was first one to notice/comment on that. To me they were very obvious features but he said others so far hadn't commented on it. The house wasn't completely Craftsman, was mixed with other style.
How long did you look for new house before you bought yours? So much to consider, plan, think of when choosing new home. Wishing you and family so much happiness in your new home.
Have wonderful week, will be watching for new projects.

You have beautifully 'built' your own custom foyer with so many complementary textures, colours and shapes.
