How To Make New Iron Brackets Look Old

Slowly but surely the half bath is coming along.
I made two shelves to hang above the toilet. It was a fairly easy process. I stained some wood after The Hubster cut the board to size for me. Then I used my Hobby Lobby iron brackets that I purchased at 50%.

This is how the brackets originally looked. I decided that they were too new looking and I wanted to make them look old and rusty. While I was painting them I also noticed that they were broken in places but I decided that was fine because it would just add to their charm.

To help achieve the rusty iron look I was going for I used my Annie Sloan Old White.

With a sponge brush I added the white all over. You could use a regular paint brush if you want.

Next I used a damp paper towel and just started wiping the Old White off. If I wiped too much off I just added it again and then repeated wiping.

Next I used some antiquing medium I had on hand.

I dabbed some medium on a damp paper towel and just started rubbing it all over the bracket.

It was a super easy project and one that you can't mess up! If you do not quite like how they are looking all you do is keep adding and taking off till you achieve just the right amount of rusty goodness.

Attaching the brackets required a straight edge, a measuring tape plus a little patience.
To get them hung required a leveler and The Hubster.

Here is a little sneak peek at whats to come next!:) I am in the process of adorning the shelves. Once I am done I will be sure to share!

Treasure Hunt Thursday #81 & Highlights

Welcome to THT #81! I am so glad that you came!  Here are my top picks from last weeks party.

Leslie over at Gwen Moss shared with us a tutorial on how to make this beyond beautiful pumpkin centerpiece just in time for those Thanksgiving dinners.

Linda from Coastal Charm shared with us her visit to the Country Living Fair and the fabulous find she purchased there. It pays to be patient!

Melissa over at DaisyMaeBelle shared with us this amazing twin bed she made over! If my boys had beds like these I would try this for sure.

Last but not least Doreen over at Altetred-Artworks shared a tutorial on how to make this cool memo board! I love the little burlap flowers!

As always thank you to all who partied last week! I am so truly honored to have such talent partying at my place! If you were featured please feel free to grab the "I've Been Featured" button!:) I have the newly updated button with html code on my sidebar!

What would be a HUGE help and encourage more comments not just from me but others as well would be for everybody to take off their required verification codes for leaving a comment. This seems to take just a few seconds of time but when you have to do it on 30 or more blogs it takes up a TON of time. Last week most everybody had turned off their Word Verification which made it so much easier for me to stop by everybody's links! Thank you!

Now on to this weeks party!
As with all parties there are the normal rules. You must link back to From My Front Porch To Yours in your THT POST. Just common courtesy. If ya don't link back ya don't get to party. Only link up to your Treasure Hunt Thursday post and NOT your blog homepage. Please No advertising and PLEASE NO MORE than 3 links from the SAME party goer. Also NO MORE linking up to your own link parties. I am seeing more and more link ups of just people promoting their own linky parties. I know it takes time to go back and make a separate post to join the party but it is just the polite thing to do. If you find your post deleted it is not because I am a meany, I just have to make sure the rules are being followed. You can save some of your posts for the following weeks party! Please only link up new posts and not posts that you linked up the week before.

Also be sure to visit at least the link before you and after you to just say Hi! It makes partying all the more fun and remember if your link has had the most visits you will get featured on Tuesdays! If you are new around here I would love it if ya become a follower!:)

Treasure Hunt Thursday #80 Most Viewed Links

The last few weeks our numbers dropped. I am not sure why. We had two fabulous weeks of over 100 links. The only thing I can think of is that we are not taking the time to stop by and visit all those who come to the party and thus party goers choose to not come back. I understand that it takes a LOT of time to stop and visit everybody who comes to party. Trust me I understand that and sometimes find it hard myself to do. I also know this time of year is crazy busy but lets make sure though that we at least visit the link before us and the link after us. We all LOVE it when we have comments left so lets make each others day and stop by and visit our link neighbors. Also if you think about it come back a few days later and show those near the bottom of the list some loving.

Finding Secret Treasure held the number one spot for most viewed last week with their lantern turned bird feeder. I love this idea!

Everybody enjoyed stopping by A Happy Gram and seeing her vintage red bike!

Simply Organized came in at # 3 with their daughters beautiful nursery and bathroom.

Hope everybody makes it out to the polls today if they have not already. Have a good one and see ya back here tomorrow for THT #81!

P.s. Just in case you  missed the announcement mark your calendars!

Half Bath Update & Socks For Sandy

At the end of August I decided it was finally time to redo our half bath. In the past three years I did a few little things to it to make it more inviting like painting a blue accent wall.

I added vinyl bird decals and we even changed out the light fixture. Truth is I never really was happy with it. It is an interior room which has no natural light. Can I tell you how VERY hard it is to take pics of a small interior room in your house that has no natural light!?

One of the main reasons I did not like the bath was this shell shaped sink. Littliest would always hurt himself on the pointy edges. It was something I wanted gone a long time ago.

Other than painting the light fixture was the first thing to get changed out. I found this awesome vintage like light at Lowes. I love the milk glass globes. After we changed the light out we had a slight delay in the form of a puppy who took up refuge in the half bath for a little while.

I came up with a better solution for the puppy and hence the makeover got back on course. The Hubster had to help me get the sink base out. The builder had glued it to the floor.

We went to Lowes to get the sink I had been wanting for over a year but while there we came across this sink and it was on clearance for less than $200 so I decided we could give it a try even though I knew it was not what I had envisioned.

The very next day the other sink went back and I got the new pedestal sink I had been wanting. It makes the space feel so much bigger.

We had plans on putting the sink in yesterday but we ended up not being able to reuse the faucet from the shell sink like we had hoped. We went to Lowes & Home Depot and did not find one faucet that we both liked at a price we were willing to pay. So now I am hunting online for one. The Hubster wants to wait till we have the faucet before installing the sink because he thinks it will be a easier to install the faucet beforehand.

Even though the half bath is NOT done yet I am having fun adding accessories like this fabulous rug I bought at Target last week.

I changed out the builder grade mirror with this $10 antique mirror!

I am waiting for my newly cut and stained shelves to be dry so I can hang them above the toilet.

So there is where we stand on our half bath make over. Though it is taking FOREVER I know it will be worth it in the end.
Before I go I wanted to let y'all know about Socks For Sandy. If you are able bloggers and Hometalk are teaming up and asking that you get together new socks, gloves, and hats for the hurricane Sandy relief and mail them by this Friday, Nov 9 to

Pinterest Loving- Chateaus

Good morning everybody! I hope your weekend is going well. I am busy in the half bath determined to get it 99% completed today. Not sure if it will happen but crossing my fingers.

Today I decided to share my pins for french country chateaus.
This last house is more of a reality. Something that we actually may be able to build some day. Just look at that dreamy porch! I could spend hours out there.

Thanx for stopping by. I will share the progress on our half bath tomorrow.
