All Because Of A Sign

I purchased this adorable sign a few weeks back at HomeGoods. I knew as soon as I saw it it was meant to come home with me! I had the perfect spot that was in desperate need of a makeover.

Let me take you back to the very beginning. This is a picture of the little hallway from our kitchen into the guest bedroom. This pic was taken before we purchased our home. We had them take the carpet out and match the tile. The carpet didn't make sense to us especially seeing as to right of the little hallway is a door to the garage.

A few months went by after we moved in and I had finally decided on a paint color for the house and Then I decided I had to get rid of the builder grade half moon light fixture. Sorry for bad pic but this was as good as it got back then!;) I ended up choosing this outdoor light fixture because I wanted to give the space some character. Something unexpected.

Then I decided to hang a rooster picture under the light fixture and this is how it stayed till I brought home  the new Guest Cottage sign. I knew I couldn't just put a sign on the wall and call it a day.

So I brought out this shabby old table I have had that has seen better days but is just oh so cute. I need to figure out how to fix that crack but for now it will just get a makeover.

I busted out my CeCe Caldwell & Annie Sloan paints and just dry brushed three different colors on till I got the look I was going for. Then I wiped it down with a damp paper towel.

The top I took the sander to.

Next up I brought out my Ballard Designs Script indoor outdoor rug I purchased back in December. I was rather disappointed with it when it came because it was nothing like the picture on their website nor their catalog. The print had been scaled way down. Since then they have added a picture of what all three sizes of the rug look like and in the end they let me keep this one for FREE! I figured this would be the perfect spot to use it. Thanx Ballard!

Next up I hunted high and low for some flowers and let me tell ya hydrangeas are not cheap! Even at WM they were $9 a stem so I was thrilled when I went into HobLob the other day and saw this arrangement for half off. For $15 I could not even come close to being able to make something similar so home it came.

It fit perfectly in my vintage silver pitcher. The little bunnies I purchased out at the cottage a few days back. They had just come in and were too stinking cute to leave behind.

I pulled out my grapevine wreath for the final touch.
So now when you come and stay at The Finch Inn you will be greeted with a welcoming entrance all because of a sign! And in case you are wondering mom, yes you can still easily walk thru the space!;)

That looks great Pam! I bought that rug only one size larger than you did and it's fine...I hadn't gotten it yet when you complained about yours before and I was worried!! I'm so glad they gave it to you...that's GOOD customer service! Ballard is always a source of inspiration! Your little hallway looks wonderful! The sign was a great find!

What a pretty look for that wall. I think the lantern was a great starting point and the little table and vignette look so pretty too. I picked up a tiny desk and an old dresser with dovetailed drawers in great shape today from kijiji. They were a really good deal and right here in our town. I'm looking forward to a makeover on them. I'm also keeping my eyes open for a small little table like yours for a spot in our upstairs hallway.

I love that little area you fixed up! And, I just had to laugh when you told your mom that you could still walk through there. That sounds like something I would say. ha! I adore that sign too. Home Goods huh? Hmmmm.... may need to go there one day soon. Ha! The addition of the distressed table and the flowers and twig wreath are just PERFECT under that sign. Using an outdoor lantern in that space was a great idea too. Btw, thanks so much for re-following me today too. It is slowly building back up.

LOL, really LOL.... I must be the same age as your mom because that was the first thing that went through my mind, so I studied the full view photo to make sure. Yes, I think both your mother and I are satisfied we can walk through there.

I LOVE this! It's like a private little niche that leads to a secret hide-away! All of the pieces go so nicely together and the fact that it all started with a piece from Home Goods is not surprising!! That store is awesome! Thanks for sharing! Hugs, Leena
