Flowerbed Update Because I Kill Plants

Remember last year when I created a little flowerbed on the side of house underneath our breakfast nook windows?
It was one of the few projects I was able to do last year and it made me so happy. I love hydrangeas to pieces but alas they do not love me back. I have had almost zero luck keeping them alive. Sadly these beauties died and the bed was looking pitiful.

Back in March before lockdown and after I had painted our front door I found these at Lowes. I thought that would be perfect to add a pop of color to the side of our house. I was  told they would attract butterflies so a double win!

I do not remember what they are called. Some type of broom shrub I think. They are suppose to get rather large and I know too large for two where I have them but I am hoping I can keep them trimmed so they so not overpower the bed.

I took these pics before our grass greened up. It looks really pretty now with the grass awake.

  1. Pretty!! I always love to plant things that the pollinators love.

If you want hydrangeas, try Limelights. They can take more of our heat but a some sun.

  3. Pam,
It looks lovely!! I can't wait until it gets warm enough here and the threat of frost is past so i could plant all my pots but that will not be until the 3rd week of May...
    Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
    Hugs,

  4. I think they're pretty Pamela. Our hydrangea in front of the house have been a problem flowering for 5 years. Went to the garden center last year and the manager said they need nutrients.

We have been fertilizing so hoping this the year for flowers.

My Limelights go crazy with flowers.

    Good luck with these.
