House to Home-Farmhouse Kitchen

I have been busy in the kitchen and could not wait to share the new paint color. While going thru pictures and old posts I realized I never shared the new back splash or the completed range hood.

This is where I last left things. Since this pic the range hood was completed, new back splash installed, new cabinet hardware and the walls have been painted.

At the end of October we will have been in our new home for 1 year! This is a reminder of what we started out with. We put a lot of thought into the preliminary choices when we built our house knowing that there were updates we were going to make ourselves.

It has been fun over the past year turning our new house into our home.

I love how it all pulled together!

My pictures are not all that great because I lost my camera charger and the replacement I ordered was not correct so I had to use my phone. Once I get the correct charger I will take better pictures. I love how much brighter the space is after getting rid of the beige color.

The kitchen is almost 100% but we still have one more project to complete. I just need to decide exactly what I want to do with the island. Options are-
-Plank it and paint it a blue/gray color
-Plank it with the brand we used on the range
-Plank it with an X/Crossbuck design
-Design it to look like an old shop keepers counter

What would you do?

    1. Thanks Kelly. I can not believe it either. I was just telling hubs that come spring it will be two years since we started the build process and selling our previous home. It just does not seem like it could be that long ago!

  4. So great to see the progress in your home, Pamela! I love the stove hood- they really make a huge impact as they are large and eye level. The island is going to be perfect!

    1. Thank you Nancy. It took me awhile to decided on the tile but I certainly am glad I took my time because it all came together nicely.

  6. Your kitchen is gorgeous, love that the backsplash is different behind the stovetop and under cabinets. I'm getting ready to change my backsplash, can I ask what you used under your cabinets? Thanks, I assume you didn't flood with Harvey; we didn't but many of my neighbors did!

    1. Hi Lynn! No we did not flood but we were very nervous since the San Jacinto is not far from our home. Many many sleepless nights. The backsplash under the cabinets is tongue and groove. Gad to hear you did not flood either.

  8. I LOVE your range hood too! The stained decorative wood next to the white really pops! So many choices on the island, they all sound like winners; can't wait to see what you decide. And yes, the Agreeable Gray really lightened up your kitchen, it's lovely! I recently had my Mom's estate completely painted getting ready for sale and chose Agreeable Gray for Everything except the master bed & bathroom. I loved the outcome as it was so neutral and gave it a nice updated look. The place sold in 5 days!

    1. Congrats on the quick sale! I wish I could have had the house painted before we moved in but at the time our builder was not using Sherwin Williams as a vendor and mid build when they did switch over they wouldn't allow me to change. Oh well. I enjoy painting and it makes me proud that I did it myself. Hubby thinks it looks white!;)

  10. Sooooo beautiful!
I would paint it the blue gray color. I think that the farmhouse look will look dated when this decorating trend ends and it's better to go "timeless"
You have created such an elegant look.
    Enjoy it!

    1. Farmhouse is all relative really. I only say farmhouse because that is the "it" word these days but I have always loved this style. I have magazine clippings from 20 years ago that I saved and they all have the same elements. I enjoy using items in our home that are collected over time so to keep with that timeless look. Thank you for visiting!

    2. I know what you mean. I remember reading Country Living in the 90s and being inspired. Pamela you have an amazing talent for weaving in beautiful timeless elements and creating the perfect balance.

  11. Your kitchen looks great, Pamela! I just really admire the way you are transforming the builder's home into the home of your dreams. Your kitchen says "farmhouse" now!! Love the range hood and that backsplash is awesome! I never would have thought to mix the tiles like that. Love it!

    1. Thank you Stacey. We would have loved to have found a custom home builder like you did but after searching high and low to no avail we just compromised and are making it the way we want.

    1. We used tongue and groove under the cabinets. You can see a better picture of it here in this post I did a few months back when we installed it. http://www.frommyfrontporchtoyours.com/2017/07/diy-kitchen-backsplash-coffee-bar.html

  15. Your kitchen is beautiful and that hood is outstanding, Pamela. I agree with JoAnne, not much help with the island, because I think all your ideas sound great. I do love the warmth of that wood leaning against it though. Can't wait to see how it all turns out.

    1. Thank you Kim! The great thing about the island is that we can always change it out in a few years if we end up not liking what we do. LOL. I really wish we had had the option of finding an actual old shop keepers counter but our builder was not down with that since we were having electrical ran to it.
