I hope that everyone had a wonderful long holiday weekend! What did you all do? I can almost bet that you all did not do what I did. I went shopping at a gas station! Yes, you read that right- a gas station.

| I just could not resist this mini crock. Right about now you may be wondering why in the world would a gas station carry farmhouse decor. Well let me tell ya, here in Texas we know how to do gas stations!;) Thru out Texas you will find a chain of gas stations called Buc-ee's. These gas stations are not like any gas station you have veer been to before. Let me tell ya, you make sure you have to stop and pee if you are near one!;) Besides having the cleanest bathrooms EVER along with over 90 gas pumps they carry an array of items from hunting and fishing to home decor. You could literally spend an hour or more in this place if you are not careful. |

| Just look at all the farmhouse decor. Who could resist!? I already own that Old Farmer's Cow sign. I have yet to find a place to hang it up though. |

| Speaking of roos check out these new Jadite hens. I would have loved to have brought one home but at $60 a piece I decided they were staying there. I would rather find a vintage one. |

On top of having home decor they also know how to lure those Texas men in for awhile!;) So if you are ever in Texas and happen to see a Buc-ee's don't pass it by thinking it is just another gas station. You MUST stop and experience a true Texas tradition.
So you do not think I have totally lost it, our intentions for the day were not to go shopping at a gas station. We actually went exploring to an area down the road from us called Moonshine Hill. |

It was a bustling little town of over 10,000 people back in its hay day. One that we never knew existed even though we drive by it all the time. The area contained thirty-one oil wells. In 1905 it was the largest oil field in Southeast Texas. |
Moonshine Hill had around eight saloons, three grocery stores, a dance hall, a meat market, a drugstore, a two-room school building, and a union church
When I found all this out I was fascinated. I had read that there was not much remaining of Moonshine Hill but a few houses here or there and possibly a few other pieces of history. After driving around we could not find anything that remained of Moonshine Hill. It was a little depressing to think it was all gone but I know back in those days once drilling was done everyone packed up and moved on to the next big money making area. That is just how it was.

Well, now that IS the way to do a gas station! Wow, Pamela, that gives new meaning to "I'm going to fill up the car at the gas station", lol. Love the crock (and lots of other things I spotted in those pictures).

ReplyDeleteThat is one awesome gas station! I saw several things I'd love to bring home with me, including the cow sign! Love your crock, too! It looks so pretty paired with cotton! That is so sad about Moonshine. We have such towns as that in our area, that were once big and bustling, and now are not even there at all... no buildings, nothing! ~Rhonda

Funny post! I'm a TX girl, but have only been in a Buc-ee"s once. I may need to make a trip just to buy gas. The crock is adorable! Enjoyed reading about Moonshine Hill. Didn't know this piece of TX history.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting history of that area. I know that if we had gas stations like those I would be filling my own vehicle instead of hubby. Maybe even more than once a week just to visit the store haha.

ReplyDeleteOh Bliss here at the new house I had found a place to hang it but left it out on the back porch during Hurricane Harvey and it got ruined. :( The wind blew the rain too far in and it molded because it was made of particle board.
