Hi there! My name is Julie and I write the blog, "Lilacs & Longhorns" where I share my passion for all things home.
I am so thrilled to be here at Pamela's today sharing how I found my style! The truth is, my style is always evolving and I often feel like I'm still trying to find it! I've come to believe that finding one's style is an ongoing life-long process. I'm sure the look of my home will change over the years, but that is all part of the fun when you enjoy decorating like I do!
Right now, my dining room is my favorite room in our house. I updated it last year and to me, it reflects my style the best. |
I love rustic, farmhouse/cottage-type spaces and homes that exude warmth and comfort. And, as much as I can appreciate the beauty of a formal space, they don't reflect my personality. |
I am practical and sentimental. I love things that remind me of the past, I like color, I like flowers, I love fabric, I adore pitchers and plates, I love quality and I like saving a buck. I don't like "matchy-matchy" spaces -- I have hand-me-down furniture and pieces that I've bought at garage sales and made over myself as well as brand new pieces. I adore pillows in fabrics I love and I always find a way to incorporate a flower here and there.
My home has a very open floor plan which is wonderful for family living but can be challenging to decorate. My home is a work in progress and I have many projects to tackle in the days and months ahead!
Here in the kitchen is a good place to tell you something that has affected the style you see in my home. It will also explain the name of my blog.
As we've created our home together, it has been a challenge for me to stay true to myself while also incorporating the style and personality of my husband. |
Through the art of compromise and figuring out how to blend our tastes, I'm finally getting the hang of it! |
I have to confess that he has grown to trust that I will to blend our styles and he doesn't interject himself in to decorating the way he used to. |
Our home reflects more and more of both our personalities the longer we live here. |
Our home is not perfect, but it is ours and we love it. |
Thank you Julie for stopping by today. Your home is just beautiful and I loved learning more about you and your home. |
Well I love it too, it's so very pretty! I think you've done a wonderful job of incorporating both of your tastes,
ReplyDeleteWell it looks perfect to me. Always enjoy seeing it.
ReplyDeleteI love Julie's home and style…and I can so relate to the hubby's interjection of his style in the home…mine definitely has an opinion too…however, Julie has taken the best of what he loves and what she loves and married them into a gorgeous home for their family…love always seeing what Julie is up to!!…Great feature Pamela...
ReplyDeleteI adore Julie's style! Her dining room is fabulous! Thank you for featuring her Pamela!

I luv your style Julie. A perfect blend of masculine and feminine. I too live with a husband Whitman opinion on style :) .Actually I am a minority in my home. one me... 3 (was) , now 2 men. Even the pup is a guy! It is always a pleasure to see a home reflecting the style of both parties." Thanks ladies for allowing me to peek in.
ReplyDeleteJulie's home has always been one of my favorite's, every room is decorated so beautifully! I love her use of blue throughout her home against the warm wood tones, neutral colors, textures, and fabrics and she blends both her and her husband's styles perfectly.
ReplyDeleteJulie, your comments resonate with me! My husband's opinion is quite strong also; the only difference in mine is he still interjects himself into the decorating. I call myself the sleuth decorator. ;) Your home is a really nice blend of compromise!

I'm a follower fo Julie's blog too and I really like her style. I enjoyed reading this today, Pamela. Thanks for sharing. My husband doesn't have a decor opinion but I like to remember that I live with my three guys and have some more rustic elements in our rooms (it helps that I love leather and farm related items too.) Wishing you a great week ahead.
ReplyDeleteJulie's home is beautiful. I really loved watching the transformation of her family room last year. Love the browns and blues as well as the mix of masculine and feminine.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen this blog but I will go and check it out. It's a darling home, a beautiful blend of both of their styles. Thanks for sharing it, Pamela.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Pamela, I love how Julie scouts around for pieces to fill her home as that is exactly what I do. I cannot remember the last time I bought anything new, as like Julie, I love owning something, which someone else has cherished. A home should not be perfect, it should be a place where the family can relax and I have to say Julie certainly achieved that. She has created a really lovely home. Oh and I have to tell you, I love the name of Julie's blog, Lilacs and Longhorns and I am going to pop over and visit her right now.
ReplyDeleteThank you for introducing Julie to us.
Best Wishes
Daphne

ReplyDeleteI got some great ideas from you showing your lovely home. Especially love the plates on the wall in your dining room and the collection of rocks in the bottle. Thanks for sharing.
