Simple Spring Front Porch

While taking a little break from the kitchen reno I decided it was time to give our naked front porch a touch of spring.
The Hubster just recently changed out our door hardware out of necessity so that led to me sanding down and re staining the door. It sounds like such a daunting task but really it is not. Our door has variations in color so I just lightly sand it to get the old poly off and then put the fresh stain on. No need to strip the entire door. The trick I think is to make sure you have a stain that already goes with your door and to not put the stain on too thick. I have seen far too many doors that have had the stain put on too thick and trust me when I say that is not a good look.
I purchased this wreath from HomeGoods last month. I normally make my own wreaths but the price was right. I could not make it for any less. I hung it with some burlap ribbon from HobbyLobby. You can get a nice size roll for less than $3 when it is on sale which is frequently. I always snatch up a few when I go in. I then made a loose bow and tied it around the ribbon. The entire wreath is hanging from the door by an uphostery tack I place at the top of my door.
My spring bunny that my mama gave me. I made a burlap bow for here too. I will probably change out the basket to some flowers once I find some.
My faux fern in an urn ;) even got its very own burlap bow to balance the porch out. Yes, I know I need to replace them for fresh ones. It is on my list.
Thanx for stopping by to visit! The stove vent came in yesterday so now it is time to get cracking on building the new hood. Wish us luck!

  4. Love the door. I have the very same hardware. I put mine on about 12 years ago. Yhis past fall I had to replace mine and bought the very same. Refinished the door and added some paint accents as well love it! The florals are lovely, very very welcoming.I plan to add my decorations next Saturday. My tradition is to do it the day following Good Friday, a symbol hope and renewed life in anticipation of the Celebrations to follow.

  5. Oh, my Pamela! This is gorgeous! I love your wreath and all of your burlap bows. The garland around the top of your door looks so beautiful! We had to change our front door handles too. Living so close to the gulf it had rusted and you couldn't even open the door with a key. I think we were long over due! ;)
Love your entry and be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  9. This is gorgeous!!! I love the garland around the door. Did that come from HG too??? I love it! I do have one suggestion, the faux greens turn color over time so it might be time to replace the fern. They get that bluish color.I love your little bunny too. Happy Spring!!!!!!!!! XO, Pinky

  19. Pamela,
I love the garland around your beautiful and refreshed door. Thanks for the tip about hanging the burlap ribbon by a tack. I have one of those metal wreath holders on my door, and it has scratched off some of the paint. Your wreath is really pretty, too, with that burlap bow!
