Backyard Landscape- Adding Farmhouse Cottage Charm

In the last post about our backyard landscape I shared how we had to say good bye to an oak tree and how we ended up purchasing a landscape package from the local nursery.

A few things we did before the new landscape arrived was to place our leftover rock from the home build around the bottom of the iron fence to help deter the pup from going under it. We ran out thus needing to find some more. I purchased an 8 ft windmill off of Amazon because every farmhouse needs a windmill. I also found some vintage style patio furniture that I fell in love with. I wasn't sure how comfy the chairs would be but to my surprise they are pretty comfortable! Since the landscape install I have yet figured out exactly where to place the little table and chairs but in due time they will find their spot.

I then ordered an arbor to go in front of the iron gate. I am not really sure why there is a gate to the nature reserve. I for one will not be venturing back there. Way too many critters lurking about. LOL. I wanted it to look inviting though. To left there you can see the tree stump leftover from the oak tree. I am trying to get creative with it till we rent a stump grinder.

After the arbor went up we purchased some solar lights from Home Depot and installed them on the tops of the fence posts. Mr. Front Porch drilled holes in the tops with a drill bit especially for cutting metal. We went thru two of them but it was well worth it.

Not the best picture but you can kinda get the idea of how they look. This was before they had soaked up any sunshine.

The day came for the landscaping to arrive. Have I mentioned how much we love Crape Myrtles?!:)

The best part of the package is that they not only delivered but planted everything for us. There was no way we could have planted all of that even on a pleasant day. This pic you can see my creativity with the tree stump. LOL.

Mr. Front Porch loved the Burr Oak he picked out. This oak is approximately 9 years old. The nursery has trees up to 50 years old! There was a huge Cypress I wanted that looked just like a Christmas tree. It was as tall as the house!

The Burr Oak is no where near as old as the one that had to be taken down but we will enjoy watching it grow.

The variegated garlic society lines the privacy fencing we have on the side of our lot. We did not want to plant anything substantial because if we ever decide to put a pool in this is where they would come into the backyard. We still need to complete the flower beds. At the time everything was planted it was beyond HOT out but now that the cooler weather is here we can get out there and dig the grass out between everything and put fresh mulch down.

I ended up finding some white picket fencing to go along with the arbor.

This picture I actually took during Hurricane Harvey. I was piddling thru my home decor trying to not worry about the storm and found the "Free Weeds" sign I had made before we moved in. In between the rain bands I of course had to go outback and hang it up.

Over the weekend I added something else to this area. Be sure to check back to see what I added.

The backyard is quite magical at night! We have even more plans for the space and maybe just maybe a pool one day.
