Treasure Hunt Thursday #222 & Highlights

Weekly Blog Party-Treasure Hunt Thursday- From My Front Porch To Yours
Welcome to Treasure Hunt Thursday #222!  Even though I took a break last week I still have some highlights from the last THT to share. Before that though I thought that I would share a recent treasure I found since it is well Treasure Hunt Thursday!;)
Vintage Pie Safe-From My Front Porch To Yours

Look at the beauty that came home with me yesterday! I was not looking for her but when I spotted her on a local secondhand website she stopped me in my tracks.
Vintage Pie Safe Side-Treasure Hunt Thursday- From My Front Porch To Yours
I have no idea where she will end up in our home but it will be fun trying to figure it out. Check out her sides! On a side note, yes I already own a beautiful pie safe that my father in law made for Mr. Front Porch and I. We are currently using it in his office and it is on the DO NOT EVER paint list. I just could not resist bringing this one home though.
Vintage Pie Safe- Faux Key Hole-Treasure Hunt Thursday- From My Front Porch To Yours
I am not sure of her age. The previous owner just said it had belong to her mother.
Vintage Pie safe-Latch-Treasure Hunt Thursday- From My Front Porch To Yours
She shows many signs of being a truly vintage piece.
Vintage Pie Safe- French Blue- Treasure Hunt Thursday- From My Front Porch To Yours
The previous owner had painted the inside blue.  I am brainstorming on how to make her mine but I would love to try and figure out her age first.
Vintage White Porcelain Knobs- Pie Safe-Treasure Hunt Thursday- From My Front Porch To Yours
I was thinking the white porcelain knobs that look aged were original to the piece but now after taking pics I see there is a stain ring around the one knob which means maybe there had originally been wood knobs. Just guessing though.
Vintage Pie Safe Age-Treasure Hunt Thursday- From My Front Porch To Yours
The white porcelain knobs look like they have seen many years but then the screws that hold them in look new.
Dove Tail Joints- Vintage Pie Safe-Treasure Hunt Thursday- From My Front Porch To Yours
The drawers have dove tail joints and are made of not the greatest wood but I read that most vintage pie safes were made of shotty wood because they were made to keep critters out and a lot of them were kept outside so the makers did not pay mind to using expensive wood. I read they are mostly all made out of pine but I am not thinking this is pine. I can not find any knots reminiscent of pine.
Vintage Pie Safe Marking-A.W.K. Troy MO-Treasure Hunt Thursday- From My Front Porch To Yours
The only identifying mark I have found thus far is this stamp on the back. I am thinking it says A.W.K. but when I Googled that it came up with nothing. So anyone out there have any knowledge on how to date a pie safe? If so I would love to hear your thoughts.
Now here are highlights from the last THT!

  3. Pamela, I found your information! The Henry W. Kemper Furniture Co of 560 Main Street, Troy MO, circa 1869 (he was a German immigrant). Check out this pdf document, first on p 9, then on page 26 (in your margin, not on what the paper says as p. 9 & 26): http://dnr.mo.gov/shpo/nps-nr/13000857.pdf How cool is that?! I love your cabinet!

  9. Pamela, I am in love with your new pie safe! It is a keeper for sure. I think it is probably late 1800s and the porcelain knobs were added at a later date. It is so neat! Thank you for the party and we missed you last week!
