Springtime in Texas Means Bluebonnets & Cows- A Sunday Drive

It was a beautiful weekend this past weekend! We decided to hop in the car and go for a Sunday drive instead of being cooped up at the house. It is springtime and well springtime in Texas means only one thing- you go Bluebonnet hunting.

Bluebonnets and other wildflowers like Indian Paintbrush and Poppies start making their appearance mid March and peek around the second week of April. Each year varies though and some years you have to be quick or you will miss out on their spectacular display.

For our drive we headed up towards Round Top, Tx. We  spotted the beauties alongside the road just starting to flower. We thought that we may have been too early.

Thankfully we lucked up and happened upon a field. Now only in Texas will you have people pulling over on the side of the highway jumping out of their cars risking life to take pictures of wild flowers. LOL. True life! You have to be very careful because drivers will literally slam on the breaks to pull over so they do not pass up photo ops. No worries because we keep it safe.

Just before we happened upon the field of flowers we were discussing how my men did not want to drive up to Round Top so I could look around mind you we were literally only 20 minutes away. See it is Antique Week coming up this week and there are early vendors already set up. I prefer to go when things are less crowded. Anyways, I said we didn't need to go and that I would be just as happy if we could find some Bluebonnets and cows!:) Not only did we find a field of Bluebonnets we were lucky enough to have found a field with Bluebonnets and a heard of cattle.

I may have done a little happy dance when I got out of the car.

Our Sunday drive made for a nice getaway. We had not been Bluebonnet hunting in a few years. I may try and head back up to Round Top during the week without my men while they are at school/work so I can do a little shopping. Its not even an hour and half drive. I would love to find some large old corbels and an old screen door.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

  1. We were out this weekend too and I just couldn't believe how many bluebonnets there are! I'd say all the rain we've had worked out well for us in the end. :)

    Your photos are amazing.

    1. Thank you Penny. They are dreamy and I may try and head up to RT even though it may be crowded now. I have been several other times and they have shows twice a year. You should come out to one!

    1. I had no idea Marty you grew up in Texas! What part? I grew up in Ga but we have lived here in Texas for 17 years now and I have to say I just love it. I do though miss the Ga autumns with all the beautiful foliage.
