Let's Talk Doors

I have always been a sucker for a good door. A door can date a home or add character to a home.

This was our front door for the past 7 years. It was just a standard wood door with a half light. Though I enjoyed decorating it for the seasons I did not like it when it came to privacy. I can not tell you how many people would look into our home when they were on our porch and you could see all the way into the living room. It drove me crazy.

This week our new 8 ft craftsman style front door was installed down at our suburban farmhouse. I picked this style out because one I just love it and two for it's privacy. Most would have to stand on their tip toes to look in the upper windows.

Our interior doors at our last house were just basic doors. I added character to them by painting the insets.

For the new house we chose shaker style doors.

We have always loved this style of door and had even contemplated changing out the doors in the last home but decided it was not a smart money decision. I like this style of door because they remind me of older homes. I have dreams of buying replica antique knobs for them but they are expensive. It will probably take me years to get to all the doors.

Garage doors are important as well. It was easy to add character to our previous basic style garage doors by adding carriage house hardware to them. Completely changed up the curb appeal of our home.

As for our new garage well it holds a ton of curb appeal all on its own but the doors will add even more once they are painted. They are going to be painted the same color as our board and batten shutters. After we move in I will be going back and painting the outline of the door design in white to make the doors pop more and we will be adding the rest of the carriage house hardware to them. A larger outdoor lantern will be making an appearance as well. Maybe even an arbor over the doors as well. So many ideas!:)

Since we are on exterior doors this was our porch door. I hated this door tremendously! I dreamed of changing it out and even went to look at several doors but never found the right one. I loathed this door for security reasons.
Crossbuck DIY Wainscoting-From My Front Porch To Yours
The exterior doors at the new house are going to be Crossbuck half lights and I can not wait! Some of you may remember when I did custom Crossbuck wainscoting in our dining room.

Things are gradually coming together down at the house and I can not wait to be able to hang a wreath on the front door and welcome y'all in!

  2. I think we have the same door. I just love it. I also love the crossbuck wainscot in your dining room. I'm looking to do some thing with the walls and I think this might be perfect.
I thought the house was going to be a creamy color? How did I miss hearing about the change? It looks adorable.

  3. I agree...doors make such a difference when it comes to curb appeal as well as on the inside of the house. Looks like you're choosing some great styles for your new house. We're almost as excited as you must be to see it complete. :-)
