Texas Hill Country House- House Hunting Part 4

Are you like me and houses have to speak to you? For me I can walk in a home and within the first step inside I can tell whether it is a house that speaks to me. I can tell whether it pulls at my heart strings. I can tell whether I can picture our family making a home there. Today on our house hunt tour I am sharing such a house.

I call this the Texas Hill Country House. We had been watching this house for a little while. It was not a style we had originally been drawn to. Not that it is not beautiful! It truly is! We just tend to lean more towards traditional southern style homes. This house has a LOT of what we were wanting in our next home. I finally said what the heck let's go and take a look at it. It sits on little over an acre lot. It is away from everything but only 10 minutes to shopping. Beautiful Texas country setting. You even pass a field with cows and wild flowers in the neighborhood.

The moment we pulled up it started looking great! It has a large workshop/man cave and the perfect driveway for playing basketball.
Solid Wood Entry Doors-House Hunting-Texas Hill Country House- From My Front Porch To Yours
The huge solid wood front doors! Let me tell you the day we went to look at this home I had the boys with me. Oldest is against moving and Littlest has always wanted to move out to the country. As soon as we stepped inside the boys went crazy over this home. We did not even make it out of the foyer before Oldest said mom if we have to move this is where I want to move to. Cue eyes tearing up even now.
Brick Ceiling-House Hunting-Texas Hill Country House- From My Front Porch To Yours
I told our Realtor I was not suppose to like this house. You see it does not get us any closer to Mr. Front Porch's work but does not put us any further away either. The schools were a 45 min bus ride which I was not thrilled about but would be changing with new schools in the process of being built. With all that I still could not resist falling in love with this home. It spoke to me! I mean look at the brick ceiling, what is not to love!:)

It has custom features like the beautiful coffered wood ceiling in the office.
Wood Beams-Open Concept-House Hunting-Texas Hill Country House- From My Front Porch To Yours
It has wood beams which I love! It however did not have wood flooring anywhere but the tile was nice, neutral and clean so I could look past that because that is how much I loved this home.
Open Concept Kitchen-House Hunting-Texas Hill Country House- From My Front Porch To Yours
The kitchen was a dream! I have always wanted an open concept kitchen and this fit the bill perfectly. It has similar coloring to our current kitchen so I could easily see transitioning our style into it. I was already getting my paint brushes out to paint the upper cabinets like I did in our current home!;)

No farmhouse sink but it has beautiful granite.

Gorgeous stone fireplace.
Master Bath-House Hunting-Texas Hill Country House- From My Front Porch To Yours
This home embodies the Texas Hill Country theme. One of the reasons I love this home so much is because I could tell the owner loved the house as well! She took immaculate care of it and you could see all the love she put into their home. Though our styles are different they are the same if that makes sense? If we were neighbors I could totally see being friends with her.

The master bath was a great size.

The boys and I thought that the grotto styled walk in shower was pretty cool.
Guest Bedroom-House Hunting-Texas Hill Country House- From My Front Porch To Yours
This home truly felt like home to us! We walked out into the garage and the home owner had set up a little work area where she painted furniture and had all her Annie Sloan paints stored. I told Mr. Front Porch it was a sign!;)

This home even has a pool!
Fire Pit-House Hunting-Texas Hill Country House- From My Front Porch To Yours
Littlest was excited about the fire pit.

So this house hit a lot on our wish list. What it did not hit was location to work. It also was only 3 bedrooms and the one bedroom was small. No game room either so we were trying to figure out how to work around all that. We had thought about closing the dining room in and making it a fourth bedroom since the kitchen was so large and we rarely ever use the dining room. We could try and add on a fourth bedroom but it was already at the top of what we were wanting to spend. This house had us brain storming quite a bit. We ended up visiting it 3 times over a few months.
I could see our family in this house for a long, long time. We spoke with our Realtor and were ready to put in an offer. She was out of town at the time so we had a day to mull it over and decide on our offer amount.

It is funny how plans can change in just a days time.

I will go ahead and let you all know we ended up not making an offer on this house. I say that with a little sadness. I am however so happy for the owners because shortly after we opted not to make an offer they went under contract and have since sold their home! The home is in the country thus the market is much slower out there. They had been trying to sell since December so I know they were over the moon to finally have it sold. Selling a home is not for the weary!

Stay tuned for the next installment of our journey!

  1. Pamela, this is such a beautiful home; and I can see why you and your family loved it so much. It brings back such great memories of our time in Austin. The stone facade was so prevalent there. I am sure when the truly perfect home comes along, you will know. And there will be no hesitation whatsoever!

    1. Hi Shenita! It has been so long my friend. Funny how life gets away from us. I am so glad that you stopped by for a visit. I hope that all is well for you and your family. Yes, we will find the perfect house for us.

  2. Is adding wood floors in the budget, in case the next one you really like comes along with carpet or tile? And you know..... that detached garage would have also made a pretty sweet game room as those boys turn into teens.

  4. Pamela, beautiful home makes me see why you loved it. But I can see why realtors and staggers continually say to reduce, reduce, reduce when trying to sell a home. Those bathroom cabinets were really special! loved them.
