Dining Room Changes

On Monday I finally get to reveal our master bedroom makeover! It has been completed for a little while so I have since started on another makeover. Mr. Front Porch does not understand why I can not leave well enough alone!;)
Our dining room has slowly been evolving over the last 5 years. 4 years ago I painted the walls SW Ivoire.
Since then I traded out the buffet for a hutch and we made a custom plank top for the table. I even swapped out the chandy to a divine frenchy one. Things were coming together. Last year though, I started changing out the paint colors in our home for lighter and brighter and well the dining room no longer flowed with the rest of our home like I wanted.
In comes SW Maison Blanche!
I am already loving the brighter, airy feel it gives to the space.
Even the bottom half was freshened up. I went back to its original white. I had painted it a bright white 4 years ago and with Maison Blanche it was just too white. I needed a creamy white.
And of course I could not stop at fresh paint. I have been out in the garage using the miter saw! Can't wait to show you more.

See everybody back here this evening at 7 p.m. central time for Treasure Hunt Thursday.

A Little About Me

I was just reminded of a feature post I did for Kris of Junk Chic Cottage and Susan of Must Love Junk back in October. I thought it would be fun to share that post here today for those who are new to the blog.
Hello everybody! My name is Pamela and I blog over at From My Front Porch To Yours. First let me say thank you to Kris and Susan for inviting me over today to visit with them! I am truly honored. I agree with Debbie from Debbiedoos, I am not comfortable talking about myself so this is kinda a reach for me. Anything for my pal Kris!:) Hmmm, let's see I have been blogging for just over 4 years now.
This is me and The Hubster. We have been married for 12 years but have been together for 17. Boy does time fly!
We are from the great state of Georgia. All of our family is still in Georgia and we love going back home to visit and dream about moving back some day possibly.
Right after we were married...literally two days later...we hopped on a plane and moved to Texas. Though heart breaking to leave all we loved and knew behind we can not complain. Texas has been very good to us.
We started our family here and call it home. I can not tell you how very much I love all three of my men! They are truly my world.
We took a 2 year hiatus from Texas and lived in Baton Rouge when Oldest & Littliest were smaller. That is where I grew to love anything French.
This here is our home where all the memories and DIY chaos happens.
This lady right here, she is my mama! Shh, do not tell her I shared this pic with y'all. She would just die.
This is my mama's dining room and well you can see where I get my decorating gene from!;) I have always loved decorating. When I was a kid I would stay up till the wee hours rearranging my room till it was just right.
I love to go shopping which I also get from my mama!;)
I get a huge thrill from thrifting...
and turning my treasures into something grand.
I love to sew. I do not do enough of it but I do love it even though I can not read a pattern to save my life.
When my boys were younger I actually owned a baby boutique business and made bibs, burpies, blankets and what not for extra money to do things we loved. Doing shows for me was a big thrill! As the boys grew older though I became more focused on decorating our home and then decided to sell some of my painted furniture on the side.
I am trying to instill my passion for DIY in my boys.
So far they enjoy helping out and treasure hunting with their mom. I know it may not last but I will take it while I can.
This guy is the guy who makes it all possible. Believe it or not he is actually the one who instigates the larger projects around here!;)
Sophia is our oldest fur baby. She is 12.
Our GQ kitty as I like to call him is 11.
Then last year we added this adorable little lady to the mix after the boys begged for a puppy. She just turned one and thankfully has outgrown most of her puppy phase.
So that is my life in a nutshell. I am currently working on reworking our home from doing a semi kitchen remodel to a living room make over. Be sure to stop on by my place sometime and see just what I am up to next!;)

How I Found My Style Sundays- Bliss Ranch

From My Front Porch To Yours- How I Found my Style Sundays

When Pamela asked me if I would like to share on 'How I Found My Style Sundays', my first thought was "me... style"?.  Then I thought about how it takes all sorts of tastes to make the decorating world go round.  For me, I'd need to own about a dozen homes, decorated in a dozen different styles to capture all the different looks I like.

But I only have one place I call home, and as I write this I'm still pondering what my decorating style really is!

Sometimes I think I will haul anything home that I like even a little, and try to make it work.  My shed full of junk proves that to be true.

So in that sense my style is probably "collected", if that's a style.

Often times I like to use old wood with a history.......

To me decorating is like music.  I don't have to enjoy listening to every genre there is to still appreciate that making music requires a certain talent.

The same is true for decorating a home.  What works for some might not work for me, but it doesn't mean I don't appreciate or see the beauty in other design styles.

It's a matter of taste and preference.  And many times of budget.

Decorating at my house takes compromise, and being realistic usually trumps what I would pick if no one touched the furniture.

The truth about my style is that it has to be easy.  This is a very lived in home, where not only my style has to fit in, but that of the other people who call this place home.

Sometimes my decorating means making lemonade out of lemons.

There are not any priceless artifacts here.

Just the art work of the six kids who have carved out the lifestyle that works for our house as well as our yard.

My style has to handle wet feet and soggy swimsuits, whether I like it or not.

So my decorating can be a little bit country.....

Or a little bit rock & roll, depending on who I'm doing the decorating for.

I've never felt that I'm very good at melding the many things I like into cohesive design, so I'm the last one to give any decorating advice.

But every once in a while something I dream up in my head turns out just like I imagined.....

Fortunately for me, someone else who lives in this house can build things that often pull the style I'm after, all together......

Natural elements, rock & stone, barn wood, vintage finds, passed down treasures, industrial metals, and things that are relaxed and comfortable.  I like it all.

Decorating that looks good but can handle anything from a mug of spilled coffee, and tiny fingers, to teenagers big dirty feet.

And of course that can handle the darn dog!

Often I passed over a decorative item or beautiful piece of furniture that I really liked because it just wasn't going to work in a sometimes very messy household.

OK, fine.... often messy household!

Every decorating choice I have ever made had to be family friendly, and I don't always get it right while I'm busy focusing on the bigger picture.

I do what I can, with what I have, so that it works for me and who I lived with.

The way we live - with many minds and busy hands - means we extend our living space outdoors as often as we can.

From playhouses and garden sheds, to fire pits and pools that all have to survive over a cold winter, my decorating has usually been intentional so it's family friendly.... and lots of times accidental.

We intentionally and accidentally have created a home where not just our adult friends are welcome, but our kids' friends as well.

But really, there is only one thing that makes a home beautiful, and that's the people inside it.
