How I Found My Style Sundays- Atta Girl Says

How I Found My Style Sundays From My Front Porch To Yours

A big ole hi y'all from North Carolina! I'm Amy from Atta Girl Says, and I'm excited to be part of Pamela's " How I Found My Style Sundays."

We moved into our dream home four years ago, and it's been so much fun to decorate with our family's personality, comfort and style in mind. OK, maybe it's mostly my style, but I do let my husband and son have a say every now and then!

My decorating style is? Always evolving -- that's for sure!

I'm not sure there's an official name for my style. I tend to think of it as vintage, eclectic, traditional, with a little touch of modern every now and again. And maybe a little Frenchy. Confused, maybe that's the word for it! I definitely love color. And pattern.

You'll find examples of both throughout the house, like in the dining room.

The living room. (Say hello to our dog, McCoy!)

How did you "find" your decorating style? I think I must have found it for 25 cents at a yard sale or a flea market!

Seriously, though, I think my style probably developed as I accompanied my mom on yard sale shopping trips during my childhood. I developed an appreciation for the antique and the old, the used and the imperfect.

I see potential in castoff, broken-down furniture.

Just give me a paintbrush! I remember once shopping with a friend who said a pillow reminded her of something from her grandmother's house. She was not a fan. Of course, that made me like it even more!

Just look at my living room sofa. I'm a big fan of "granny fabric!"
What has been your most treasured find for your home? This is a tough one for me.

I have so many beloved items. My vintage pottery collection is very special to me. The aqua McCoy vase in the photo above is probably my favorite because I searched so long for it, and I've never seen another one since.

I'm also quite smitten with the empire sideboard in our keeping room. It was an estate sale find, and it has such an interesting history.
What tips do you have for creating a beautiful home? I really do think if you follow your heart, you can't go wrong in decorating your home.

I am sure there are people who don't think mason jars and rusty canning racks belong in the dining room, but to me, they are beautiful.

I think when you tour our home, you'll notice that it looks like our home, and no one else's. Sure, you may spy an item here and there from a big box store or catalog, but these items are mixed in with things I have been collecting since I left my parents' house as a young woman setting out on my own. As I walk from room to room, I don't see "decorating choices" but rather reminders of a time I fell in love...

  2. Your home is gorgeous! I would like to know who invented the term "granny fabric" as if that is a bad thing. I can deal with some contemporary, very little modern, but traditional, country cottage, shabby chic is more of my style. If I have a style.
Your sofa and pillows are gorgeous. I love the McCoy vase, and your home is filled with beautiful eye candy. It is simple as this, our home is our home.......it does not matter what any one else thinks.

  3. I love Amy's style, Pamela! She's got such a pretty and fun home. I used to do color like she does in our old house and in recent years have gone toward more neutrals. Love her living room and the pictures she has over her sofa. Such a great idea to fill such a large wall.

  5. Hi Pam - what a fun featured blogger. Amy is crafty and creative, talented, unique and funny. I laughed out loud when she answered how to found her style:

"I think I must have found it for 25 cents at a yard sale or a flea market!"

That's too funny, true and cute.

Thanks for featuring her, she deserves it for sure. : - )

  12. I love Amy's house! I'm so blessed to have her as a personal friend and to have visited her beautiful home many times. I know that Amy refers to her style as "confused", but it isn't at all. She is a master at mixing all of the things that speak to her heart together to create a perfectly warm and welcoming abode.
