Creating A Reading Nook with a DIY Basket Side Table

From My Front Porch To Yours- Bedroom Reading Nook
After creating our French Farmhouse Master Bedroom I decided that I needed to add something to the space in front of the windows.

In comes this chair that I purchased one Sunday morning off of Joss & Main and a basket for some of my many many decor magazines.

I hunted high and low for a basket and found this one at HomeGoods but I felt it needed a little more.

With a little chalk paint the basket was taking on a new life. I used a wide artist brush to get in between the weave.

Next up I used my DecorSteals faux zinc stencils. The number 45 has no significance. I just liked the two together.

I was afraid of bleed thru on the sides but due to the consistency of the chalk paint it staid where it was suppose to.

After painting I decided that the basket was too short.

Off to Lowes Mr. Front Porch went and he brought home these. I think they were $4 a pair.

We placed two scrap boards on the inside of the basket to screw the wheels into.

The wheel installation required both of us.

The basket is now the perfect height for a little side table!

I had been eyeing this chair for several years now and after seeing it at a ridiculously low price I had to have it. I am so glad I ordered it. It is actually pretty comfy.

The new reading nook has been popular with not only me but also our fur babies and Mr. Front Porch.

  1. I think that is a great idea to put the board inside. I might try it by adding one to the outside and one to the inside and screwing them together. Your room turned out so pretty and this rolling basket just tops it off so well.

  11. I love the paint color in your pictures. I am wanting to paint my master blue. When I look at it on the paint swatch it seems green. Does it have a green tinge? I want a pale blue and that is exactly what it looks like in your pictures. Paint swatches can be so deceiving! Thanks Jill

    1. Jill thanx for stopping by!:) The paint color is Sherwin Williams 6211 Rainwashed. I am in love with it. You can see more of the room in this link so you can see how the color looks. It is more of a blue grey to me.http://www.frommyfrontporchtoyours.com/2014/06/french-farmhouse-bedroom-transformation.html

    2. Thanks! I knew the name but on the swatch it looks in the green shades. Funny, I found a lot, yours master included:), of posts of Rainwashed and they look blue. Someone even said it looks more green in the can, but it dries blue! I will go get a sample tomorrow. Can't wait to get a blue bedroom again. I had one for years and when we moved in to our new house I went more yellowy. I haven't been happy with it. Thanks for inspiring me to go back to blue! :)
