Bead Board Wallpaper- A Project That Went Way Wrong

I am trying to finish up all the little details for the kitchen reveal that y'all have been so patiently waiting for.
One of the things I felt I needed to complete was repainting the little hallway from the kitchen into the guest bedroom. It was still SW Camelback which was the color of the kitchen before the kitchen makeover.
I decided instead of painting the hallway the same color as the kitchen I would paint it the same color as the living room to add some contrast to the kitchen.
Painting led to taking down the old light and putting up a new one that I already had on hand. Old light is the one I am holding.
This was the end result. Love the lighter color so much better! Something was missing to me though. There was no wow factor and I wanted some wow but did not want to spend any money on wow. I am sure you know how that goes!?
In came the bead board wallpaper I had out in the garage.
Yes, that is just what this little hallway needed, or so I thought.
Do you see that?

Yep, talk about total failure. The entire seam kept coming up no matter what I did. I even attempted to secure it with little photo stickers you use for scrapbooking just so I could get pics for the reveal. It was not happening.
To make matters worse at night you can see the texture on the wall underneath the wallpaper.

So if you have textured walls DO NOT put up bead board wall paper unless of course you sand the wall down first to remove the texture but honestly I did not want that much commitment to it. Texture is so hard to match back up and if I were to ever get tired of the wallpaper or it get damaged I still wanted to have the textured wall.

Now do not be put off by the bead board wall paper! Just because it did not work on the walls does not mean it is not a great alternative.
The reason I had it on hand already was because I used it in the cubbies of the built-in in the kitchen.
It went up like a dream. Super easy.
I was even able to paint it and distress it with wax.
I love how it looks in the cubbies! I just do not love it on my walls.

Off to Lowes to pick up a sheet of wainscoting!;)

Starting A Gallery Wall

Source
I have always wanted to create a gallery wall in our home.

Source
I wanted a wall that was a collection of not just pictures but a variety of things like this one by Rhoda over at Southern Hospitality.

Melissa at DaiseyMaeBelle always comes up with wonderful gallery walls as well.

I decided that a gallery wall was just what this blank wall in our living room needed so I started pulling together things that I have been collecting.

I won this vintage mirror at an auction back in the spring and was just waiting for the right place to hang it.

My mom bought me this vintage frame when she was out here in March.

I love how old and chippy it looks and even the wood backboard has character.

The boys and I went treasure hunting not too long ago and I broke down and joined the antler club.

So far I am really loving how the wall is turning out and can not wait to find more treasures to add to it.

See ya back here tomorrow at 4 p.m. for Treasure Hunt Thursday.

How I Found My Style Sundays- Rain On a Tin Roof

Hi, I'm Jenna from Rain on a Tin Roof!
new profile pic crop 370
I'm happy to be at From My Front Porch To Yours with Pamela today. Thanks for having me, Pamela.
I blog over at Rain on a Tin Roof about DIY, decorating, thrifting, crafting and a little re-purposing. Between making sure my kiddo doesn't set the house on fire and picking up Grunt Labor's shirts from the cleaners on time, I can usually be found with a can of spray paint in hand.
I'm thrilled to be sharing my home with you today!
My home has vintage, modern, and country elements. So, I'm calling it the Vintage Modern Country Rancher.
I know it doesn't make sense right now, but hopefully by the end of the post, it will!
Home Tour {rainonatinroof.com} #hometour
Two years ago, Grunt Labor (the husband) and I purchased a 1960s brick rancher. Was it our dream home? Not a chance. Was it in our dream neighborhood? Definitely. And location is the one thing you can't change.
After purchasing our rancher, we set out to renovate 90% of it in a two month time frame.
Yes, we were crazy.
Entryway:

The green tray was a goodwill find. My decorating style comes from working with what I have. I hate to spend a lot of money on decor when I may be tired of it in a year.
Kitchen:

The kitchen got a makeover including a new tile backsplash, counter-tops and a custom built island thanks to Grunt Labor. We kept the original cabinets, but gave them a coat of paint and new hardware. We are all about frugality around here.

The island is one of my most treasured pieces. Grunt Labor built it from columns we purchased at a salvage store and the bottom shelf is made from barnwood from my great grandfather's farm.
Dining Room:

Many of the pieces in my home are pieces that were other family members at some point. I'm the family packrat that has a hard time parting with pieces that special family members have owned, thus why my style is vintage-modern-country. I have come to realize though, that just because I take all the old furniture doesn't mean I can't make it my own in some way. This was the case with my dining room table and chairs. They belonged to my great aunt, which I revived with paint and love. The corner liquor cabinet was once my great grandmother's china cabinet.

The buffet turned media center came with the dining room table from my great aunt. It too, got a coat of paint. I created the gallery wall with finds from thrift stores and more hand-me-downs.

I found the white chairs on Craigslist, scoring six for a whopping $25.

Master Bedroom:

It took two years for us to finally start the master bedroom makeover. The room itself was functional, it just needed "makeup."

The two pieces of furniture you will never find me painting is my dresser and chest of drawers in our master bedroom. They were my great uncle's and have a beautiful finish that has held up beautifully for the last 50 years. Hopefully, they have 50 more. I did touch up the hardware with some Rub 'N Buff though.

I carved out a reading nook in the corner of our bedroom with a chair from Costco and DIY corbel shelving.

I made the wall art in the bedroom with PicMonkey and frugal graphics from Etsy.
My Bathroom:

Grunt Labor and I have separate bathrooms. Its the key to a happy marriage. I promise.
My bathroom got new marble tile, a new vanity and this built-in bathroom shelving:

If there is anything I have learned from decorating my home, its work with what you've got.
A can of spray paint can do wonders.
Wanna snoop around my home more? Right this way, please....

Thanks again for having me, Pamela!
Jenna thank you so much for coming over today and sharing with us how you transformed your house into a beautiful home!
