How I Found MY Style Sundays- Northern Nesting

Hi Friends...I'm Martina from the blog Northern Nesting and I am so honored & excited that Pamela asked me to be part of her series How I Found My Style!

Boy...in the 16 years I've been married my style and taste sure did change... a lot!! My style went from 90's style Country with a lot of mauve, blue, and greens to Traditional with the dark wine and navy blue color scheme. But over the last 5 years things changed again around here and I know I finally fell for a style I absolutely love...Country French!

I am still a person who loves color...that will never change... and I love to paint (and not just the walls;)...I love to paint furniture, to bring an old outdated piece back to life again. *Use what you have...just give it an update when needed...I have many pieces that were do-overs;)
I love mixing the old with the new for a collected over time look.
I would have to say this blue chest that I found at a local garage sale a few years ago and redid with Annie Sloan chalk paint would have to be the piece in my home that is near and dear to me...it's my favorite makeover!
Moving on into the dining room. I just replaced our old chandelier with this beauty.
This chair was a recent victim of a paint makeover.
*My tip to you would be...paint is your friend and it's the easiest way to change the look of a room or a piece of furniture without spending a lot.
Our kitchen and family room open up to one another and is definitely the heart of our home... it's where you will always find us.
It's a space I filled with all things cozy and homey.
A few years ago we turned our builder basic white island into a more custom piece by painting it black and adding bead board around the sides and decorative trim to finish it off. (My husband almost lost a thumb doing this...NO JOKING!)
My mom just picked this wreath up for me (we like the same things)!

The wicker stand in the next shot was a recent find in Pier1...it's the little things like this that make me smile:) I love the warmth wicker adds to a room.
Looking into our family room from the breakfast area.

It's important to fill your home with all the things you love...don't worry what's in and what's not! If you love it... and it makes your house a "home"... stick with it!
My decorating style flows right on through into our master bedroom.
Pamela thank you so much for having me over today...this was so much fun!

I love making new friends and would love you to stop on by Northern Nesting for a visit!

Martina thank you so much for coming over to visit with us today! I have always enjoyed watching you transform your home over the years and of course you already know how much I LOVE your new dining room chandy.

  11. I really like Martina's home. I'm a big fan of country French too. I love the changes she has made over the years to acquire that look. The painted furniture and the country French style fabrics and accessories has all transformed her home. I love what she did with her island in her kitchen. I love for an island to stand out as a statement in a kitchen rather than blending in with the rest of the cabinets. Really glad that her husband's thumb was spared! Otherwise, we might not get to see any more of these nice projects! LOL!
